Job summary

MIT Alumni Association is seeking an Associate Director of Board Relations and Governance to oversee the governance function for the MITAA Board of Directors and its committees. The role requires exceptional writing, volunteer leadership and the ability to align governance work with MITAA’s strategic priorities.

You will plan and coordinate board operations, develop content for meetings, and work across departments to ensure smooth governance processes throughout the year.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5+ years in alumni relations, board or nonprofit administration in higher education or similar setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills; able to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong planning, organizational, project management, and written/oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end Board governance functions and committee operations.
  • Plan, develop content, coordinate and continually improve Board meetings and governance processes.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure effective Board operations year-round.
  • Recruit, support and coordinate volunteers and senior volunteers; liaise with key stakeholders.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, BOARD RELATIONS AND GOVERNANCE

Alumni Association CEO , serves as the operational lead for the MIT Alumni Association (MITAA) Board of Directors and its committees; owns end-to-end Board governance function; leads the planning, content development, coordination, and continuous improvement of Board operations; possesses exceptional writing skills and volunteer leadership skills; aligns with the Association's strategic priorities; works closely with several key stakeholders across the MITAA; leads planning, meeting development, governance administration, committee coordination, and communications while fostering collaboration across departments to ensure the effective operation of the Board throughout the year.

Job Requirements
  • REQUIRED : Bachelor's degree; a minimum five years of experience in alumni relations, board or volunteer relations, nonprofit administration, or a related field in a university or nonprofit setting; demonstrated experience administering programs or events that serve multiple constituency groups and stakeholders; excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders; strong planning, organizational, project management, and written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, complex environment; strong attention to detail, with the ability to produce accurate, polished, professionally formatted materials; demonstrated success setting priorities and delivering high-quality work; highly professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information; ability to anticipate scheduling conflicts, content gaps, and potential problems, and proactively recommend solutions; ability to recruit, support, and coordinate volunteers; proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • PREFERRED : Knowledge of Ellucian Advance Web or other enterprise fundraising system and web presentation software such as Zoom; experience working in higher education advancement.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work evenings and weekends.
  • This is a hybrid position with a combination of on-campus and remote work.
