DESCRIPTION

Otterbein University is in search of an Associate Director of Athletic Communications for Multimedia . This is a full-time, exempt position working 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year under the Athletics department chair's supervision.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Social and Digital Media (40%) - Devise and execute a strategy to increase Otterbein Athletics social media engagement; Work with the Director of Athletics to strategize on how to best utilize multimedia to advance departmental goals pertaining to recruiting, retention, and student athlete experience; Capture photos and videos, design graphics, and create content from sporting events and campus activities, as well as for creating game previews, digital programs, and social media promotions. Run departmental social media handles; Manage and promote Smugmug photo shop and the associated budget; Plan and direct all team media days; Monitor our team specific accounts, browse what competitors are doing, and stay up to date on industry trends; Work with University Marketing and Communications to design recruiting brochures; Monitor departmental brand guide usage to ensure that Otterbein is always represented consistently and as intended; Learn about the different identities of student athletes, and how we provide support/coverage of their journeys.

Supervision (20%) - Hire and coordinate freelancers for photography and Athletics' livestream; Recruit student workers for multimedia needs; Create student worker training and assessment protocols; Provide professional mentorship to students hoping to go into the field; Coordinate with the Director of Athletic Communications to deploy our Graduate Assistant(s) as needed.

Event Preparation and Coverage (20%) -Help oversee all media and press box responsibilities relating to statistics, website coverage, writing, live streams, public address, visiting media, fan engagement and student guidance. This could also include PA scripts, weekly award nominations, communicating with opponents, relaying info to other parts of campus, etc. While this is not the primary component of the role, we still have to cover everything from a sports information/event perspective. This role will have to help cover such aspects when needed.

University Marketing and Communications Office (5%) - Work as a floating/supplemental contributor and routine source of support for MarComm office as it relates to photography, videography, interviewing, alumni engagement and cross-promotional content university wide; Serve as the primary connector (liaison) between Athletics and MarComm with dual content that benefits both departments; Attend regular meetings to stay up to date on social media plans and upcoming initiatives.

Alumni Engagement (5%) - Stay up to date with department/program needs as it relates to keeping alumni relevant and 'in the know' with current data; Work with coaches on Senior Days, alumni events, our official Team Shop, and how to best stay connected with former SA's.

Sponsorship Integration (5%) - Connect with corporate sponsor contacts to stay abreast of interests in how their brands are displayed and connected to Otterbein Athletics; Ensure that appropriate logos are present on sports posters, our website and in social media content. As we explore selling media rights at the conference level there will be a need to be creative in how to integrate sponsors in our livestreams. This position will take charge in that area and advise the Director of Athletics on opportunities to explore.

Professional Development (5%) - Build relationships with those around the conference and region; Attend zoom calls and local get-togethers/workshops; Stay active with College Sports Communicators news and the Academic America program; Attend not only the CSC summer convention, but at least one other professional development outing through an affiliate organization.
