Job summary

BetterHelp is expanding beyond the United States and seeks an Associate Director and Corporate Counsel to guide global legal operations. You will advise on a wide range of issues, negotiate key agreements, and ensure privacy and regulatory compliance across Europe and other regions.

The role requires a qualified lawyer with in-house or equivalent experience, fluency in English, and comfort working across multiple markets. Travel to the San Jose, CA office is expected a few times per year.

Qualifications

• Must be a qualified lawyer admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction.
• 1–5 years' post-qualification experience (or equivalent).
• UK or Ireland qualification preferred; EU-qualified lawyers encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Advise on international business legal issues for new market launches and existing operations.
• Negotiate and draft product partnerships, SaaS, vendor, marketing, and privacy agreements with data security focus.
• Support GDPR and local privacy laws and update related policies and procedures.
• Advise on marketing, consumer protection, and telehealth regulatory compliance in international markets.
• Coordinate with outside counsel and internal stakeholders on litigation and regulatory inquiries.

You will join our lean and highly impactful legal team supporting Teladoc's key asset, BetterHelp, as it scales its operations outside of the US. Teladoc is an ever-growing, dynamic and world-spanning public parent company. BetterHelp is the world's largest virtual counseling service and a critical component to Teladoc's current and future growth.This individual will be a key contributor to all aspects of BetterHelp's international legal needs. An ideal candidate for this position will be fluent in English with additional legal experience in one of our key European target markets (France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain or Italy). In addition, the candidate will have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, growing, exciting environment and to take ownership of projects and programs.This role works across multiple areas of law including contracts, litigation, IP, health and telehealth regulation, government affairs, employment, compliance and general corporate. Independent management of outside counsel is integral to the position, as well as hands-on production of work products.As our international legal counsel, you will:- Advise on a wide variety of legal issues related to our international business, supporting both new market launches and existing operations- Negotiate and draft product partnership agreements, sales contracts, marketing affiliate/partner agreements advertising/creative/podcast/influencer agreements, SaaS, and vendor agreements in compliance with applicable laws with a focus on data security and privacy laws across the globe- Support privacy compliance in non-US markets, including GDPR and local equivalents (e.g. advising on product/process changes and helping update related policies and procedures)- Advise on marketing, digital services/platform laws, consumer protection, and trade practices requirements in international markets- Support health/telehealth regulatory compliance in relevant markets, partnering with internal stakeholders and external/local counsel as needed- Support employment and contractor legal matters in international markets and assist in drafting and updating related terms and agreements- Support and optimise privacy operations, including privacy-related vendor/partnership reviews and privacy ticket triage/reviews (e.g. DSARs and other privacy inquiries)- Support litigation matters and regulatory/government inquiries as needed, including coordinating with external counsel and internal stakeholders (as applicable)- You will NOT worry about \"runway\", \"cash left\", or \"how much time we have until the next round\".
