Job summary

The San Francisco Symphony seeks an Associate Director of Alternative Programming to lead non-classical programming including Summer, Holiday, Film, and special events. You will craft engaging concerts, unite artists with audiences, and leverage orchestral programming to resonate with the Bay Area community.

This role collaborates across departments to expand content, drive revenue, and explore new partnerships; 5–7 years in a performing arts setting and strong negotiation/communication skills

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years’ experience in a performing arts organization.
  • Knowledge of popular performing artists, bands and films.
  • Excellent working relationships with artists and managers.
  • Proven negotiation skills across a variety of programs, artists, and industries.
  • Ability to think innovatively about artistic planning and collaborate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Program and engage artists for Holiday concerts.
  • Program and engage artists for all non-classical Summer concerts.
  • Program and engage artists for Film Series and Film Singles.
  • Program and engage artists for special events as assigned.
  • Program and engage artists for added pops, presentations, and alternative programming.
  • Explore and develop expanded content and co-promotional relationships with other organizations.
  • Pursue collaborations inside and outside Davies Symphony Hall to connect audiences.
  • Develop systems with Marketing and maintain idea repositories for pitches.
