Qualifications

  • Expert programming with Python, R, LLMs for large, complex data.
  • Experience building LLM apps, prompt engineering, RAG pipelines in regulated settings.
  • Knowledge of pharmacovigilance, regulatory information management, quality systems.

About This Role

Biogen is seeking an Associate Director, AI/Data Science to help lead the strategic adoption of advanced analytics, machine learning, and generative AI across pharmacovigilance, regulatory, quality, and clinical data operations. This role will shape data science strategy, develop and evaluate AI/ML solutions, and partner across research & development leaders to transform how data is used to improve decision-making, operational efficiency, patient safety, and compliance in a regulated life sciences environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Define and lead analytics and AI strategy using modern methodologies, including LLMs, GenAI applications, agentic workflows, and RAG-based solutions.
  • Research, test, and implement new technologies, data sources, and AI/ML approaches for pharmacovigilance, regulatory submissions, quality, and clinical data insights.
  • Establish AI governance, validation protocols, and responsible AI practices aligned with GxP and regulatory requirements.

  • Present findings, model evaluations, and business impact of AI-enabled solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate is a strategic, hands-on data science leader who can translate emerging AI capabilities into validated, compliant, high-impact solutions. They bring strong technical depth in GenAI and advanced analytics, sound judgment in regulated environments, and the communication skills to align stakeholders across medical safety, regulatory, quality, clinical, and technology functions. Travel is expected to be less than 10%.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred in computer science, mathematics, statistics, computational biology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical organization using data to support R&D decision-making.
  • Expert programming skills with Python, R, LLMs, or other languages applied to large, complex, and disparate data sources.
  • Experience developing LLM applications, prompt engineering, RAG pipelines, fine-tuning approaches, and AI solutions for regulated life sciences settings.
  • Knowledge of pharmacovigilance, regulatory information management, quality systems, clinical trial data, and compliance frameworks.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $176,000.00-$242,000.00

Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.

Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
