Job summary

Sandy Hook Promise is seeking an Associate, Development in Newtown, CT for the Development team. The role focuses on Salesforce-based fundraising operations, gift processing, reporting, and administrative support.

Hybrid work with some travel, reporting to the Associate VP, Grants. The candidate should bring 2–3 years of nonprofit development experience, CRM/database proficiency, and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of professional nonprofit or development support experience.
  • Experience with databases/CRM systems, preferably Salesforce NPSP.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate with internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Support fundraising operations through Salesforce CRM, gift processing, and reporting.
  • Assist Moves Management activities and maintain data integrity.
  • Prepare donor communications, mail merges, and Salesforce documentation.
  • Provide event CRM and administrative support for fundraising activities and grants.
  • Maintain core documents and donor records; support sponsorship and grant activities.

Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) envisions a future where all children are free from school shootings and other acts of violence. As a national nonprofit organization, SHP’s mission is to educate and empower youth and adults to prevent violence in schools, homes, and communities. Creators of the lifesaving, evidence-informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP teaches the warning signs of someone who may be in crisis, socially isolated, or at‑risk of hurting themselves or others and how to get help. SHP also advances school safety, youth mental health, and responsible gun ownership at the state and federal levels through nonpartisan policy and partnerships.

SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

Location

We are a U.S. based organization and most of our staff work remotely. This hybrid role requires periodic onsite presence at our Newtown, Connecticut office, with a minimum of 8 in person hours per week. To support timely collaboration and reduce travel burden, all team members must reside within a 25‑mile radius. We encourage thoughtful travel choices that balance cost, convenience, and sustainability.

About the Role

The Associate, Development plays an important role in supporting fundraising operations through database management (Salesforce), gift processing, reporting, and administrative support. This position helps maintain established systems and processes, supports Moves Management activities, and contributes to the effectiveness of the Development team.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, solutions-oriented, and collaborative, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and ensure accuracy across a variety of responsibilities. This position reports to the Associate Vice President, Grants and works closely with the broader Development team.

CRM & Development Operations
  • Supportaccurategift processing, donor record management, and data entry within Salesforce.
  • Monitor donor data quality byidentifyingduplicate records, correcting data inconsistencies, and updating contact information.
  • Generate routine reports and donor lists to support fundraising, stewardship, events, and Development team activities.
  • Support frontline fundraisers by preparing meeting materials and documenting donor interactions in Salesforce.
  • Follow established Development operations procedures andmaintainrelated records and documentation.
  • Conductdonorand prospect research using approved tools to support fundraising activities and data integrity.
Moves Management & Data Integrity
  • Supportfulfillmentof the existing Moves Management system.
  • Supporttimelyandaccurategift processing that align with Salesforce.dashboards and reports provided to the Development team
  • Maintainagrant calendar inSalesforce, ensuring that allapplication and report deadlines areenteredand updatedina timelyfashion
Stewardship & Donor Communications
  • Support gift acknowledgment processes, including report preparation, mail merges, mailing coordination, and Salesforce documentation.
  • Assistwith donor communications, including email campaigns, mailings, and audience segmentation.
  • Respond to routine donor inquiries and direct complex requests toappropriate teammembers.
  • Help manage shared Development team communications and coordinate with internal partners as needed.
Events, Reporting & Cross-Functional Support
  • Provide CRM and administrative support for fundraising and cultivation events
  • Assistwith reporting and materials for grants, major gifts, board meetings, and annual fundraising activities.
  • Support sponsorship, grant, and fundraising documentation needs.
  • Provide database support across fundraising streams, including individual giving, corporate partnerships, foundations, and events
  • Maintain a folder ofup-to-datecore documentsfor easy access(e.g.W-9,financialstatements, Boardlists,leadership bios,etc.)
  • A commitment to SHP’s mission and values.
  • Other duties identified as organizational needs.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience, preferably in a nonprofit, fundraising, development, administrative, or operations environment.
  • Experience providing administrative or operational support and coordinating multiple projects, tasks, or stakeholders.
  • Experience working with databases or CRM systems; Salesforce NPSP experience preferred.
  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with data entry, record management, reporting, andmaintainingaccurateinformation.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow established processes and procedures while exercising sound judgment within assigned responsibilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and external partners.
  • Experience with fundraising operations, gift processing, donor services, or development support preferred.
