Job summary

The University at Buffalo seeks an Associate Dean for Research in the School of Social Work to lead the school’s research agenda and infrastructure. The ADR also serves as director of the Buffalo Center for Social Research, guiding strategic plans, policies, and interdisciplinary collaborations with internal and external partners.

Key duties include developing research strategy, liaising with university administration, mentoring researchers, and managing budgets.

Qualifications

• PhD in social work or a related field.
• Record of scholarship meeting tenure requirements for associate or full professor.
• Proven track record of procuring external funding from foundations, state, and federal grants.
• Record of mentoring faculty and students in starting research projects and procuring funding.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership in the development and implementation of the school’s research strategic plan.
• Serves as SSW research liaison with university administration.
• Develops the SSW’s research infrastructure.
• Develops and promotes policies and procedures that support research.
• Chairs the Grants Team and Project Design Team.
• Manages the BCSR budget and reports on research activities and funded portfolio.
• Hires, supervises, and evaluates BCSR staff.
• Develops BCSR strategic plan in conjunction with RAC.
• Develops and implements mechanisms to monitor funded research benchmarks.
• Networks on research matters with other schools to develop interdisciplinary collaboratives.
• Identifies and advocates for BCSR research infrastructure needs.

Position Title Associate Dean for Research, School of Social Work

The Associate Dean for Research ( ADR ), who also serves as the Director of the Buffalo Center for Social Research ( BCSR ) , oversees the development of the school’s research agenda and protocols consistent with UB’s guidelines, and providing leadership in articulating and carrying out the research mission of the School of Social Work .

Essential Duties:

• The ADR provides leadership in the development and implementation of the school’s research strategic plan developed in collaboration with the school’s various constituencies
• Serves as SSW research liaison with university administration
• Develops the SSW’s research infrastructure
• Develops and promotes policies and procedures that support research
• Serves as a member of the SSW Administrative Team
• Chairs the Research Advisory Committee ( RAC )
• Implements faculty professional development opportunities
• Develops mechanisms to monitor funded research benchmarks and productivity of peer institutions
• Networks on research matters with other schools to develop interdisciplinary research collaboratives
• Identifies and advocate for BCSR research infrastructure needs.
• Develops and implements BCSR strategic plan in conjunction with RAC .
• Chairs the Grants Team and Project Design Team.
• Develops and manages the BCSR budget
• Reports on research activities and funded research portfolio as required.
• Hires, supervises, and evaluates BCSR staff
• Organizes and implements the BCSR Distinguished Scholars Series.
• Manage endowment accounts according to donor’s directive.
• Administer the Fed- AWARD program.
• Cultivates external funding resources
• Develops both faculty and student research and award opportunities
