The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) invites applications for the position ofAssociate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA). This is an internal search open only to current University of Florida employees.

The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in fostering academic growth and maintaining a culture of excellence across the College.

The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) invites internal applications for the position ofAssociate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA). We seek a visionary and highly capable leader with a strong commitment to excellence in faculty leadership, success and mentoring, teaching and graduate education. We are looking for an individual who not only has a strong academic background, but also possesses the leadership qualitiesrequired to excel at this job, e.g., high emotional intelligence, effective communication skills, adaptability, and integrity.

The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) and will:

• Develop and provide oversight of programs to enhance faculty success in the college mission of teaching research and service:
  • New Faculty Orientation Program
  • College and department mentoring programs
  • Workshops or seminars as needed to enhance faculty development
• Develop and provide leadership training for faculty and department chairs.
• Serves as College Teaching Liaison interface between HWCOE and the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and oversees college initiatives to improve teaching effectiveness in the college.
• Oversee all faculty evaluation processes:
  • Tenure and promotion
  • Mid-tenure review of assistant professors
  • Progress toward promotion review of non-tenure-track faculty
  • Investigation of all grievances and complaints by or against faculty
• Serve as liaison between the college administration and college level faculty committees including the Engineering Faculty Council, HWCOE Tenure and Promotion Committee, Honors and Awards Committee, HWCOE Curriculum Committee, and HWCOE Sabbatical Committee.
• Provide oversight of the development of interdisciplinary graduate academic programs and manage the graduate curriculum approval process for the college.
  • MS programs, including the Achievement Award and 4/1 programs
  • Serves as the college interface with the Graduate School, Graduate Curriculum Committee, and the Graduate Council on graduate student grievances, degree certification, and academic policy.
  • Oversees Ph.D. student recruiting, fellowship programs, and college wide quality initiatives.
• Meet regularly with HWCOE HR on faculty, graduate assistant, and OPS graduate student employment matters.
• Serve as the HWCOE liaison for
  • Academic units and administrators on campus
  • Associate Provost of Academic Affairs
  • Associate Provost for Teaching and Technology
  • State academic entities such as the State Common Course Pre-Requisite Committee.
• Conduct other duties as assigned.
