Job description

The Associate Data Scientist role at Home Depot (THD) supports data science initiatives aimed at improving business profitability, operational efficiencies, and the customer experience. In this onsite position in Austin, TX, you will contribute to the development of analytics solutions by building algorithms and models, analyzing large datasets, and sharing findings with both technical and non-technical partners.

What you’ll do

• Design and develop algorithms and models to generate business insights from large datasets
• Support data science projects by performing effective analysis to address business problems
• Execute tasks with strong efficiency and quality
• Consult with Data Scientists or Sr. Data Scientists on the selection, use, and interpretation of advanced analytical methods
• Learn assigned business areas to improve solutions by applying business-specific context
• Communicate insights, recommendations, and potential impacts to technical and non-technical audiences
• Assist with preparation of reports, updates, and/or presentations covering project or solution progress
• Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging methodologies
• Continually grow skills in data analytics concepts and methodologies
• Identify opportunities to apply learnings

Position purpose

The Associate Data Scientist supports initiatives that drive business profitability, increased efficiencies, and improved customer experience. Working closely with Data Scientists and/or Sr. Data Scientists, the role helps develop solutions by applying advanced analytics methods and algorithms to identify trends and support business decision-making. Depending on the team, the role may require building capabilities in one or more specializations, including optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search, or NLP.

Minimum requirements

• Must be eighteen years of age or older
• Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
• Completion of a bachelor’s degree program (or equivalent degree) in a field related to the job

Preferred qualifications

• Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Math, Statistics, etc.) or equivalent work experience
• 3+ years of experience in business intelligence and analytics
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Power Point
• Experience with a modern scripting language (preferably Python)
• Experience running queries against data (preferably Google BigQuery or SQL)
• Experience in predictive modeling, data mining, and data analysis
• Experience with data visualization tools (preferably Tableau)
• Experience applying statistical techniques to identify insights for business problem-solving
• Basic knowledge or exposure to prescriptive modeling such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search, or NLP
• Basic knowledge or exposure to predictive modeling, data mining, and data analysis

Compensation and schedule

Salary: USD 70,000 - 130,000 per year. Location: Austin, TX (onsite). Travel requirements: No travel required.
