Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a data engineer to design and maintain data pipelines and analytics-ready datasets. You will collaborate with actuaries, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver reliable data products.

You will support Tableau and Power BI dashboards, ensure data quality, and contribute to cloud-based data platforms. A foundation in SQL and Python, plus exposure to cloud services, is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent work experience.
• 0 to 3 years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics, software development, data integration, or related field.
• Foundational knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Exposure to Python or another programming language.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Experience with data visualization tools preferred (Tableau/Power BI).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, AWS).
• Experience with large datasets and data transformations preferred.

Job description

• Develop and maintain data pipelines, data integrations, and analytical datasets supporting actuarial, underwriting, claims, and business analytics.


• Partner with actuaries, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver reliable data solutions.


• Support Tableau, Power BI, and other reporting and analytics platforms by preparing and validating data assets and creating dashboards for management.


• Assist with data quality monitoring, validation, reconciliation, and documentation.


• Participate in developing data products that enable self-service analytics and reporting.


• Work with technology teams to support cloud-based data platforms and integration processes.


• Contribute to automation and process improvement initiatives that increase efficiency and data reliability.


• Follow data engineering standards, development practices, and governance requirements.


• Continuously learn and apply new data engineering and analytics technologies, tools, and techniques.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field


• 0 to 3 years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics, software development, data integration, or a related technical field


• Foundational knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts


• Exposure to Python or another programming language through coursework, internships, personal projects, or professional experience


• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills


• Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and work collaboratively in a team environment


• Internship, co-op, research, or project experience involving data engineering, data analytics, reporting, or software development preferred


• Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, or similar reporting and visualization tools preferred


• Exposure to cloud technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure, AWS, or similar platforms preferred


• Experience working with large datasets and data transformation processes preferred


• Interest in insurance, actuarial analytics, business intelligence, or advanced analytics preferred


• Exposure to AI-assisted development tools, automation technologies, or machine learning concepts preferred
