Gannett / USA TODAY NETWORK seeks a dynamic and passionate Associate Creative Director, Copy to join our innovative Brand Marketing and Creative Studio. This pivotal role sits at the heart of our cross-functional teams, driving our brand strategy and spearheading initiatives that forge authentic connections with our audience.
As an Associate Creative Director of Copy, you will be responsible for the development of our messaging strategy for our consumer brands under the Creative Studio Head.
Across USA TODAY, our local brands, and ancillary products, you’ll lead the development of messaging systems that elevate how we speak to consumers. You'll oversee a strike team of copywriters embedded across products and campaigns, ensuring consistency and creativity throughout the consumer experience. You'll also help shape breakthrough, cross-channel campaigns that drive cultural relevance and get people talking about our brands.
You’re an excellent creative storyteller with the ability to teach others how to craft engaging headlines, build compelling manifestos, and elevate video scripts. You sweat the details, no matter the medium. You’re adept at developing tone and voice to match each brand’s unique identity. You're a little obsessed with everything. Sports? You’re in. Movies? Your Responsibilities:
• Be a part of the leadership team that is responsible for building a center of creative excellence under the Creative Studio Head.
• Lead a team of copywriters with clear communication and a strong creative vision to develop copy strategies that build and shape the voice of our diverse brands and products.
• Develop and refine bold, thought-provoking copy that fulfills and elevates the brief across a wide range of media and channels — including video scripts, advertising, social content, brand campaigns, experiential, OOH, and digital platforms.
• Own and maintain the voice of USA TODAY, our local brands, and new products, becoming the trusted lead on both the written and spoken communication for our brands.
• Possess a strong grasp of strategy and a passion for storytelling to push creative boundaries, always looking ahead to innovate and stay on top of evolving marketing and cultural trends.
• Champion best-in-class creative campaigns that are strategically crafted with the consumer at the center, designed to drive cultural relevance and competitive edge in a fast-paced environment.
• Oversee multiple projects and collaborate with key stakeholders, including Marketing Directors and cross-functional partners, to ensure strategic alignment and drive a unified voice across all consumer touchpoints.
• Exhibit confident interpersonal and presentation skills to effectively communicate ideas, build relationships, and influence across teams.
• Cultivate a creative and empathetic environment by offering inspiration, thought leadership and mentorship to empower and elevate others.
• Welcomes constructive feedback during the business's highs and lows with maturity and professionalism. Tackling challenges with creativity and a focus on finding the best outcomes.
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience managing teams and driving results in a highly matrixed organization with diverse stakeholders.
• A strong portfolio or work samples showcasing strategic, brand-building copy concepts and executions across multiple platforms and integrated marketing campaigns. Please ensure your resume includes a link to your portfolio.
• 10+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent marketing copywriting experience in a related field.
• Agency or brand side experience working with a wide range of brands is preferred.
• Strong track record of managing teams and driving results in a highly matrixed organization with diverse stakeholders.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and persuasively.
• Writes with grammatical precision across a variety of media formats and distinct brand voices.
• Highly organized with sharp problem-solving abilities and a proactive mindset.
• Both self-motivated and a team player, with a strong drive to deliver measurable results in a fast-paced environment.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $120,000 and $130,000. Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to,the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications and experience. Note: variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable
