Job summary

Job Overview

GEICO is looking to hire an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and other first‑party insurance defense. The position is with GEICO Staff Counsel located in Dallas, TX.

Responsibilities

• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath.
• Defend by trial or dispositive hearing on matters assigned, as applicable.

Basic Qualifications

• 2‑6+ years of experience in related field litigation.
• Experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury.
• Juris Doctor degree.
• Admission to the Texas Bar.
• Licensed in good standing to practice law in Texas and meet all mandatory Continuing Legal Education requirements.
• Ability to travel as required, including to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.
• Ability to document files clearly, concisely, and professionally for customers, clients, co‑workers, and other employees.
• Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and possess strong organization, priority setting, and multi‑tasking skills.
• Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense‑related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, via telephone, and written correspondence/email.
