Job description

GEICO is seeking an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in California courts and handle other first-party insurance defense cases. This position is with GEICO Staff Counsel, located in Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, and San Francisco.

Job duties and responsibilities:

1. Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
2. Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
3. Preparing and managing pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, examinations under oath, and defending cases through trial or dispositive hearings.

Qualifications:

1. 2-6+ years of litigation experience in insurance, defense, or personal injury.
2. Admission to the California Bar.
3. Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in California and comply with licensing and CLE requirements.
4. Ability to travel for trials, hearings, depositions, meetings, and conferences.
5. Excellent documentation skills with clear, concise, and professional writing.
6. Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and prioritize effectively.
7. Willingness to learn and apply technical and procedural information.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional communication skills in person, via telephone, and in writing.

Location: REMOTE

Salary Range: $112,750.00 - $186,550.00

Note: The salary is a general guideline; actual compensation depends on various factors including experience, education, location, and market considerations.
