Met Council, America’s largest Jewish charity serving the needs of New Yorkers, seeks an Associate Counsel to handle contracts with funders, partners, consultants, and service providers. The role includes contract administration, board matters, insurance requirements, and governance compliance.

You will advise leadership on legal risk, draft agreements, coordinate with insurers, track renewals, and draft board minutes to support the agency’s mission and ensure regulatory adherence.

Competenze

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) is required.
• Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing is required.
• Three years of experience in contract review, drafting, and compliance matters.

Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 101 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and affiliated JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.

Position Summary

We are seeking an attorney with a passion for serving the poor to assist with an array of legal matters. The Associate Counsel will draft and review contracts with funders, partners, consultants, and service providers for the agency. Further, the Associate Counsel will assist in contract administration, board matters, insurance requirements, and compliance.

Principal Responsibilities

• Advising leadership and individual departments on legal matters and risk
• Reviewing and drafting legal agreements
• Coordinating with insurance partners and internally to ensure coverage for agreements
• Tracking contract renewals and deadlines
• Drafting board minutes and resolutions, corresponding with entity boards, and ensuring compliance with governance requirements

• Excellent communication and public speaking skills
• Strong critical thinking skills
• Ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interest of the agency.

Compensation

$100,000 - $115,000 per year
