You will advise senior leadership, oversee investigations, and drive corrective actions across the enterprise with a focus on cultivating ethical conduct and regulatory readiness.

Qualifications

  • Active law license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5+ years in legal and/or healthcare compliance roles.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, fraud and abuse laws, and reimbursement/coding risk.
  • Experience leading investigations and corrective-action plans.
  • Strong research, writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and escalate when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and evolve the organization’s compliance program, setting priorities and driving execution.
  • Advise senior leadership on regulatory and operational matters and translate complex requirements into practical guidance.
  • Oversee investigations, risk reporting, and remediation efforts with escalation as needed.

Join a growing medical organization seeking a strategic and highly collaborative leader to help shape and advance its compliance and risk management efforts. As Associate Counsel and Director of Compliance, you will partner closely with the Chief Legal Officer on a range of legal matters while providing leadership and direction to the growing compliance function. This role will help drive compliance strategy, strengthen organizational processes, advise key stakeholders, and foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and continually evolve the organization’s compliance program, establishing priorities, assessing risk, developing initiatives, and driving execution across the organization.
  • Serve as a strategic legal and compliance advisor to senior leadership and key stakeholders, translating complex legal and regulatory considerations into practical business guidance.
  • Provide leadership for compliance reporting, investigations, and emerging risk matters, ensuring concerns are appropriately assessed, escalated, resolved, and communicated.
  • Oversee risk-based auditing and monitoring activities, identify systemic issues and trends, and drive sustainable improvements.
  • Lead remediation efforts and partner with organizational leaders to develop and implement effective corrective-action strategies.
  • Advise leadership on a broad range of regulatory and operational matters, including new initiatives, organizational changes, strategic relationships, vendors, and evolving requirements.
  • Lead the development, review, and negotiation of a variety of operational, commercial, and organizational agreements.
  • Provide legal leadership on significant privacy and compliance matters, including incident response, risk assessments, and third-party requirements.
  • Develop and deliver compliance education while promoting strong ethical standards, open communication, accountability, and a culture in which employees feel empowered to raise concerns.
Must-Have Skills
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and an active license in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • At least five years of relevant legal and/or healthcare compliance experience, including meaningful healthcare regulatory work.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare compliance programs, HIPAA, healthcare fraud and abuse laws, and reimbursement or billing and coding risks.
  • Experience conducting or managing internal investigations and developing practical corrective-action plans.
  • Strong legal research, writing, judgment, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into clear operational guidance.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and recognize when matters require escalation.
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience with a physician practice, medical group, health system, management services organization, or other multi-site healthcare organization.
  • Experience with physician-practice compliance, provider arrangements, revenue cycle, billing and coding audits, or healthcare operations.
  • Prior in-house legal experience or experience building and maturing a compliance program.
  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), or a comparable credential.
