Job summary

Google is seeking an Associate Corporate Counsel to support the Quantum AI team in Mountain View, CA. You will advise on computing hardware/software paradigms and partner with product managers, engineers, and researchers to scale quantum computing efforts.

You will address privacy, IP, security, competition, and consumer protection across the product lifecycle, from research to launch. Individual pay includes base, bonus, and equity considerations.

Qualifications

• J.D., LL.B., or equivalent degree/practical experience.
• Admitted to the bar or equivalent in the state of employment.
• 3 years of relevant legal experience in science/tech, product liability, privacy, regulatory compliance, IP, or computer hardware/software.

Responsibilities

• Provide solution-oriented legal advice to cross-functional teams from R&D to launch.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. and international laws on IP, privacy, security, marketing, competition, and consumer protection.
• Partner with product, research, and IP teams to support strategy across quantum hardware and software lifecycle.
• Serve as trusted counsel to Quantum AI product, engineering, business teams on strategy and execution.
• Draft, review, and negotiate complex agreements with industry and academic partners, suppliers, and investors.

Minimum qualifications

• JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
• 3 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department advising on science and technology, product liability, privacy, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, or computer hardware and software paradigms.

Preferred qualifications

• Undergraduate or additional degrees in physical sciences or engineering (e.g., physics, electrical engineering, materials science) or equivalent practical experience working closely with deep-tech Research and Development (R&D) teams.
• Ability to build relationships and establish credibility with business leaders in service of "getting to yes."
• Demonstrated ability to be flexible in a changing environment with limited direction, balance priorities, and manage several time-sensitive projects at once.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a high volume of requests, and an eagerness to take on legal issues in the field of artificial intelligence.

About the job

As Associate Corporate Counsel, you will be an adept legal counsel with experience in advising on computing hardware and software paradigms. You will work with product managers, engineers, and researchers to support the Google Quantum AI team's rapid scaling and frontier goal of building quantum computing for otherwise unsolvable problems, targeting the delivery of truly useful error-corrected machines.

In this role, you will work closely with product, business, and cross-functional teams and will participate in counseling quantum computing products and services end-to-end, from research and development to launch and beyond. The initiatives in this area are new and growing, at the front of quantum information science and technology. You will be responsible for a mixed portfolio advising on a wide range of legal issues including privacy, intellectual property, security, marketing, consumer protection, and competition, among others.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $217000 - $314000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

• Provide solution-oriented legal advice to teams including engineering (both hardware and software), product management, operations, and business development from the initial stages of product research and development to launch and beyond.
