Description
We are seeking a talented and motivated environmental attorney to be based in Seattle to support Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS provides cloud computing services and IT infrastructure to public and private clients around the globe, including on-demand compute capacity, data storage, content delivery, browsers, and more. The successful candidate will join the AWS Legal Regulatory Risk Management & Compliance team focusing on environmental compliance and sustainable design of AWS’s global physical infrastructure.
You will be part of a team that counsels Amazon’s data center business and compliance teams on a range of environmental, regulatory, and infrastructure development matters.
This role will give the successful candidate an opportunity to join a collaborative, tight-knit team that is leading exciting and pioneering global initiatives as part of a business that is making history. Some travel, domestic and international, will be required.
The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, pragmatic, enjoy working hard and being challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
Key job responsibilities
- Providing day-to-day advice on compliance issues
- Monitoring and advising the business of upcoming environmental regulatory changes
- Developing and improving compliance policies and programs
- Working cross-functionally with other data center teams to develop new infrastructure
- Negotiating commercial transactions with environmental vendors
- Handling legal disputes and inquiries from regulators
- Enabling AWS’s global circular economy objectives and evolving global requirements, particularly electronic equipment reuse, repair, and sustainable decommissioning of our sensitive data center devices
Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of legal experience
- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
- Legal experience in environmental compliance matters
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work
- Experience in web services/cloud computing, software licensing, telecommunications or equivalent
- Experience managing multiple projects and meeting aggressive deadlines
- Previous data center compliance experience
- High degree of independence, initiative, decisiveness and creative thinking, as well as a desire to be challenged
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to be a partner to business stakeholders

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $195,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
