Role Description

Leif Associates is seeking an experienced Associate Consulting Actuary to lead complex healthcare actuarial engagements for public and private clients. This role is ideal for an ASA-level healthcare actuary who wants meaningful client ownership, senior team collaboration, and high-impact consulting work across pricing, reserves, health plan performance, regulatory review, and financial decision support. You’ll join a lean, senior consulting team with direct client exposure, meaningful autonomy, and the opportunity to influence decisions that affect health plans, regulators, employers, and plan participants. Leif Associates combines actuarial, employee benefits, and data analytics expertise in a collaborative, remote-first environment.

What You'll Do
  • Lead client relationships, frame actuarial issues, facilitate project discussions, and present recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Manage healthcare actuarial projects involving pricing, reserves, revenue forecasting, medical and premium trends, claims experience, and health plan performance.
  • Direct research, statistical analysis, cost-benefit studies, and financial assessments that help clients evaluate options and make informed decisions.
  • Translate complex or incomplete information into practical recommendations, clear reporting, and well-supported client deliverables.
  • Guide analysts and actuaries to ensure work is accurate, timely, and consistent with Leif Associates' quality standards.
What We're Looking For
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
  • 5-10 years of healthcare actuarial consulting experience with public and private clients.
  • Strong consulting judgment, ownership, comfort with ambiguity, and ability to turn analysis into clear recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the presence to advise clients and collaborate with associates.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with state insurance departments performing regulatory rate review for health insurance plans, including ACA individual and small group products.
  • Experience working with self-funded multi-employer trust plans.
  • Knowledge of or experience working with 1332 Waiver programs.
  • Experience performing GASB 75 actuarial valuations would be a plus.
Schedule & Location

This is a remote, full-time position. Leif Associates is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, with a branch office in Ontario, California. Team and client meetings are typically conducted by Zoom or Microsoft Teams between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Mountain time, with occasional variation for client needs. Limited travel is required for periodic client meetings or company events.

Compensation & Benefits

The expected total compensation range for this position is $150,000-$200,000 per year. Actual starting pay will depend on job-related factors, including relevant experience, skills, and qualifications. Total compensation includes base pay plus a guaranteed annual bonus of one month of base salary. Benefits include three weeks of paid leave, life insurance, medical insurance, dental insurance, a retirement plan, and ten paid holidays.
