Job summary

ENTRUST Solutions Group is seeking a Distribution Planning Engineer to support electric utilities with distribution planning studies, long-term system planning, load forecasting, and protection analyses. You will work with experienced engineers on meaningful projects and collaborate across disciplines to enhance reliability and safety.

The role involves developing distribution models, conducting voltage and contingency analyses, and participating in client-facing project work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• ~2+ years of experience in electric utility or distribution planning.
• Experience with distribution modeling and engineering analysis tools (e.g. CYME, Synergi, or ASPEN, WindMil, ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, CAPE, PSS/E, PSCAD).
• Familiarity with load flow analysis, voltage studies, fault current analysis, reliability studies, or protection coordination.

Responsibilities

• Perform distribution planning studies, including load flow, voltage analysis, contingency analysis, capacity assessments, and system reliability evaluations.
• Support long-term distribution system plans and identify infrastructure improvements required to support forecasted load growth.
• Assist with the development of utility construction work plans (CWPs), capital improvement plans, and system reinforcement programs.
• Perform arc flash studies, protection coordination studies, and fault current analyses.
• Develop and maintain distribution system models using tools such as CYME, Synergi, WindMil, ASPEN, or similar platforms.
• Support load forecasting and system capacity analysis efforts.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to develop integrated engineering solutions.
• Support client-facing project work, including technical discussions, study reviews, and engineering deliverables.

Are you a Distribution Planning Engineer looking to deepen your expertise in utility distribution systems and take the next step in your consulting career? In this role, you'll support electric utilities with distribution planning studies, long-term system planning initiatives, load forecasting, protection and arc flash studies, construction work plans, and related engineering analyses. You'll work with experienced engineers on meaningful projects, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to helping utilities improve reliability, safety, and system performance.

What You’ll Do

• Perform distribution planning studies, including load flow, voltage analysis, contingency analysis, capacity assessments, and system reliability evaluations.
• Support long-term distribution system plans and identify infrastructure improvements required to support forecasted load growth.
• Assist with the development of utility construction work plans (CWPs), capital improvement plans, and system reinforcement programs.
• Perform arc flash studies, protection coordination studies, and fault current analyses.
• Develop and maintain distribution system models using tools such as CYME, Synergi, WindMil, ASPEN, or similar platforms.
• Support load forecasting and system capacity analysis efforts.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams including distribution design, substation, protection, data solutions, and operations teams to develop integrated engineering solutions.
• Support client-facing project work, including technical discussions, study reviews, and engineering deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• ~2+ years of experience in electric utility or distribution planning.
• Experience with distribution modeling and engineering analysis tools (e.g. CYME, Synergi, or ASPEN, WindMil, ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, CAPE, PSS/E, PSCAD etc.).
• Familiarity with load flow analysis, voltage studies, fault current analysis, reliability studies, or protection coordination.
• Strong analytical, organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to travel up to 5% as required to support clients and projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• FE/EIT (or ability to obtain)
• Experience supporting distribution planning studies, construction work plans, or capital planning initiatives.
• Familiarity with load forecasting tools such as LoadSEER.
• Exposure to arc flash studies and protective device coordination.
• Experience with data analysis, automation, or scripting tools.
• Exposure to grid modernization, reliability improvement, or asset management initiatives.
