Job summary

Alvarez & Marsal seeks an Associate in Compensation & Benefits Tax for Summer 2027. You will benchmark compensation for C-suite and board, design long-term incentives, and handle complex M&A calculations for executives.

The role includes researching tax reform and SEC requirements, preparing tax analyses, and drafting memos on compensation issues. You will also support marketing efforts, collaborate with colleagues, and participate in client meetings.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing the following degrees/majors: Bachelors and/or Master’s in business administration, accounting, finance, taxation or other relevant field
  • Definitive plans for meeting minimum educational requirements for CPA eligibility and licensure in the state of your assigned office location
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to articulate complex information
  • Strong analytical skills
  • High proficiency in spreadsheets
  • Ability to simultaneously work on several projects and effectively manage deadlines
  • High motivation to learn and grow
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without the need for employment-based sponsorship now or in the future. A&M will not sponsor applicants for US work visa status for this role

Responsibilities

  • Benchmark compensation and develop reports to support the compensation recommendations for C-suite executives and Board of Directors
  • Design long-term incentive awards while considering the tax, accounting, and other regulatory ramifications
  • Work on mergers and acquisitions, including performing complex calculations for target companies and their executives
  • Develop retention and incentive arrangements for companies undergoing a restructuring
  • Research emerging issues and areas, such as tax reform legislation and new SEC requirements, in order to keep our clients up to date on the ever-changing regulatory environment
  • Prepare tax calculations and various analyses/models to help clients make better-informed compensation decisions and comply with the applicable rules and regulations
  • Draft technical memorandums and letters related to compensation & benefits issues
  • Assist with marketing initiatives by writing articles, preparing pitch decks, researching targets, and developing presentations
  • Team with other colleagues and participate in client meetings

Compensation Statement

The annual base salary is $80,000, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.

Benefit Summary

Regular employees working 30 or more hours per week are also entitled to participate in Alvarez & Marsal Holdings’ fringe benefits consisting of healthcare plans, flexible spending and savings accounts, life, AD&DD, and disability coverages at rates determined periodically as well as a 401(k)-retirement savings plan. Provided the eligibility requirements are met, employees will also receive an annual discretionary contribution to their 401(k)-retirement savings plan from Alvarez & Marsal. Additionally, employees are eligible for paid time off including vacation, personal days, seventy-two (72) hours of sick time (prorated for part time employees), ten federal holidays, one floating holiday, and parental leave.
