Job summary

UHA University Health Associates in Morgantown, WV seeks an Associate Clinical Therapist to assess and treat individuals with mental health or substance use issues in a behavioral health setting.

Working with a licensed professional, you will conduct psychosocial assessments, develop treatment plans, provide individual and group therapies, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support patients of all ages.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in related field is required.
  • Must possess ONE of the following licenses as required by state board where services will be provided: WV Temporary Social Worker License OR LBSW OR LPCC Temporary Permit/Provisional LPCC; OH license; MD license; PA license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychosocial assessments of patients and families to identify emotional and social strengths and problems related to diagnosis and life situation.
  • Assist in creating comprehensive psychosocial treatment plans using evidence-based social work interventions, including crisis, individual, marital, family, or group therapies.
  • Screen and diagnose mental health or substance use issues in patients and family members.
  • Assist with screening, identification, diagnosis, management, and treatment of abuse, neglect, and domestic violence.
  • Maintain knowledge of medical/legal issues affecting patient care (advance directives, abuse, etc.).
  • Educate patients and families about adaptation to diagnosis, illness, and treatment.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Liaise with community agencies and resources for patient care.
  • Utilize hospital resources to access patient care needs.
  • Document assessments, plans, interactions, and interventions per guidelines.
  • Attend staff, committee, and department meetings.
  • Keep current with social work and health care developments to enhance job knowledge.

Job description

The Associate Clinical Therapist, working alongside a licensedprofessional, will assess and treat individuals with mentalillnesses or substance abuse problems. Such services includeindividual and group therapy, outreach, crisis intervention, socialrehabilitation and teaching skills for everyday living for patientsof all ages (children, adolescents, adult and geriatric issues) ina behavioral health environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  • 1. Master’s Degree in related field

2. Must possess ONE of the following licenses as required bystate board where services will be provided:

  • WV: Temporary Social Worker License OR LicensedGraduate Social Worker through the West Virginia Board of SocialWork OR Licensed Professional Counselor Temporary Permit orProvisional Licensed Professional Counselor through the WestVirginia Board of Examiners in Counseling
  • OH: Licensed Social Worker through the Ohio Counselor,Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapist Board
  • MD: Licensed Master Social Worker OR LicensedGraduate Professional Counselor through the Maryland Board ofSocial Work Examiners
  • PA: Licensed Social Worker through the PennsylvaniaDepartment of State Bureau of Professional and OccupationalAffairs
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. 1. Provide psychosocial assessments of patients and families toidentify emotional, social, and environmental strengths andproblems related to their diagnosis, illness, treatment, and/orlife situation.
  2. 2. Assist in creating a comprehensive psychosocial treatment planutilizing appropriate clinical social work treatments andinterventions. Interventions may include crisis intervention, briefand long-term individual, marital, family and/or group therapies aswell as grief and bereavement work.
  3. 3. Screen, identify, diagnose, and assist in treatment of mentalhealth and/or substance abuse problems in patients and familymembers.
  4. 4. Assist with screening, identification, diagnosis, management andtreatment of victims of abuse, neglect, domestic violence, rape,etc.
  5. 5. Maintain a working knowledge of relevant medical/legal issuesthat affect patient care, e.g., advance directives, child and elderabuse
  6. 6. Provide education to patients and families around issues relatedto adaptation to the patient's diagnosis, illness, treatment and/orlife situation.
  7. 7. Participate in multi-disciplinary health care teams.
  8. 8. Maintain working knowledge of and liaison with communityagencies and resources.
  9. 9. Knowledge of hospital, medical center and/or health systemresources to access and provide for patient care needs.
  10. 10. Document assessment, plan, interactions, and interventionsaccording to departmental, hospital and/or health system guidelinesand standards.
  11. 11. Attend and participate in staff, committee, department, andother administrative meetings.
  12. 12. Keep current with social work and health care developments andseek to increase further enhancement of job relatedknowledge.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. 1. Work with difficult or challenging clients of various ages anddemographics.
  2. 2. Work performed requires prolonged periods of sitting.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  1. 1. Normal clinical office environment in a behavioral healthclinical setting.

  1. 1. Ability to work effectively and autonomously in a self-directedrole.
  2. 2. Highly collaborative with strong interpersonal and team buildingskills.
  3. 3. Ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and manage timeefficiently.
  4. 4. Flexibility in accepting diverse work assignments and managingstress related to change.
  5. 5. Requires understanding of human development and behavior.
  6. 6. Must have an appreciation for the effects of various social,economic and cultural factors, and an understanding of how thesefactors interact.
