Job Summary

Responsible for dispatch and/or transport of blood and other specimens. Assists the laboratory staff with clerical and technical tasks indirectly related to the delivery of quality patient care for diagnostic testing. May perform CLIA waived laboratory testing. Performs routine duties in the lab. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsible for dispatch and/or transport of blood and other specimens. Assists the laboratory staff with clerical and technical tasks indirectly related to the delivery of quality patient care for diagnostic testing. May perform CLIA waived laboratory testing. Performs routine duties in the lab. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all specimen collection and preservation requirements, media requirements and storage.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in receiving specimens in the lab.
  • Follow accreditation standards, regulatory agency requirements and institutional policies.
  • Ensure accurate and complete patient identification using at least three (3) unique patient identifiers.
  • Record and retrieve laboratory data proficiently.
  • Ensure timely distribution of samples.
  • Maintain proficiency in specimen tracking.
  • Handle reference lab specimen requirements, receiving, and processing proficiently.
  • Load and unload blood culture bottles and perform CLIA waived tests proficiently.
  • Assist customers, answer phones, and respond to inquiries.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and work area cleanliness.
  • Assist with training and educating new employees and students.
  • Complete assigned goals.
Specifications
Experience
  • Minimum Required: Certification/Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, or biological sciences, or equivalent experience and education.
