Qualifications

• National certification preferred within area of specialty for critical care, operating room, endoscopy and trauma.

Short Description

Assumes responsibility and accountability for the direction, implementation and evaluation of patient care services within the assigned unit at the direction of the Clinical Director and in his/her absence. This role is broad in scope and requires the ability to work independently and apply a high degree of judgment. Assigns work load and assumes responsibility for the operational functioning of the department. Ensures the delivery of patient care through the coordination of customer services and the leadership and management of the nursing unit at the direction of the Clinical Director. Assists the Clinical Director in coordinating interdepartmental and ancillary activities to ensure quality, cost-effective patient care. Assists the Clinical Manager in directing the preparation and maintenance of patient’s clinical record, including nursing and medical treatments and related services provided by the Registered Nurse. Assists the Clinical Director in leading the patient care team to meet the needs of the customers and to achieve departmental objectives. Assists the Clinical Director in ensuring that the staff participates in educational activities and the evaluation process to enhance their personal growth and development. Acting as a liaison between nursing and medical staff, serving as a problem-solver and mediator for positive change; develops and maintains effective intra and interdepartmental relationships.

Overview

Kelemen North 7 is a 23-bed medical surgical/telemetry unit specializing in the care of traumatically injured patients. Patients with injuries that are stable but require ongoing close monitoring are admitted to this unit directly from the ED or the Ross Trauma Admitting Area. Patients are also admitted to the unit as they are downgraded from the Trauma/Surgical ICU or the Trauma Step-Down Unit. Patients usually cared for in this area include those with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, rib fractures and lung injuries, as well as diverse orthopedic injuries requiring frequent monitoring and care. The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners and resident physicians. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of the trauma patient.

Education Requirements

Graduate from an NLN accredited school of nursing. Bachelor’s in Nursing required.

License/Certification Requirements

Current New Jersey license as a Registered Nurse, BLS certification.

National certification preferred within area of specialty for critical care, operating room, endoscopy and trauma.

Certain specialties may require advanced certification (i.e. ACLS, NRP, PALS).
