Job summary

The City of New York Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking an Associate Chemist to perform chemical analyses of wastewater, solids, and related samples under supervision. You will prepare reports and maintain instruments in a large municipal water and wastewater system.

Requirements include a baccalaureate degree with chemistry credits, a valid NYS CLT license, and at least two years of full‑time lab experience.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in science with chemistry coursework.
• New York State CLT license required and maintained during employment.
• At least two years of full‑time laboratory experience.
• Education may supplement experience for higher levels.

Responsibilities

• Process samples for analysis.
• Prepare and standardize solutions and reagents with QC.
• Prepare reports on analysis results.
• Test, calibrate and maintain instruments and equipment.
• Review lab results and participate in proficiency tests.
• Train staff and provide technical guidance.
