Job summary

Chemours in Newark, DE is seeking an Associate Chemist to join our Core Services Team in the Thermal & Specialty Solutions business. You will perform analytical testing on existing and new refrigerant molecules and blends and work closely with Product, Technical Service, and Process groups to support key programs.

The role requires hands-on lab work, operating high-hazard experiments, calibrating equipment, maintaining SOPs, and documenting results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Engineering or similar; 5+ years in industry considered.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with analytical lab equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read complex SOPs and follow safety and quality procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate high-hazard processes for refrigerant analysis and classification.
  • Safely handle compressed gas cylinders and move drums/containers.
  • Manage compatibility, stability, and miscibility testing for refrigerants.
  • Maintain documentation and perform audits for safety and environmental compliance.
  • Perform in-lab analytical testing (GC/MS, IC, titration, FT-IR, AHRI 700 methods).
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and calibrate laboratory equipment and test setups.
  • Plan experiments, collect/analyze data, and communicate conclusions with minimal guidance.
  • Ensure measurement systems remain in good working order and implement improvements.

Chemours is seeking an Associate Chemist to join our Core Services Team in the Thermal & Specialty Solutions (TSS) business! This position will report directly to the Analytical Sr. Staff Supervisor at our CDH location in Newark, DE.

The position will be responsible for providing critical analytical testing on existing and new refrigerant molecules and blends for the growing the TSS business. This position will work closely with the Product, Technical Service, and Process groups to support critical programs.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Operate high-hazard processes for sealed tube experiments supporting refrigerant analysis and classification, including work with open flames, molten glass, liquid nitrogen, and pressurized vessels.
  • Safely handle compressed gas cylinders, including 2 lb, 4 lb, and 10 kg containers.
  • Manage and safely execute compatibility, stability, and miscibility testing for refrigerants.
  • Maintain documentation and perform audits to ensure compliance with operating, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Perform in-laboratory analytical testing (GC/MS, IC, titration, FT-IR, and other AHRI 700 methods) for existing and new fluorochemical products.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and calibrate laboratory equipment and test setups to support fluorochemical research and address product, process, or customer-related issues.
  • Independently plan and conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, document results, communicate conclusions, and continue investigations with minimal guidance.
  • Ensure laboratory measurement systems remain in good working order and implement upgrades and improvements as needed.

The following is required for this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering or similar discipline. High school diploma or GED equivalent with at least 5 years of industrial or manufacturing experience also considered.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience in maintaining, calibrating, repairing, and troubleshooting analytical laboratory equipment.
  • Understanding of basic chemistry and math principles and demonstrated problem‑solving/troubleshooting and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to read and understand complex Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs. and move drums/containers with appropriate safety and ergonomics consideration.
  • Basic mechanical skills for using small hand tools.

The following is preferred for this role:

  • Individuals with chemical plant experience in quality analysis and quality control are especially encouraged.
  • Previous experience working with open flame/molten glass.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience in analytical techniques; proficiency in GC/GC‑MS/IC/FT‑IR and basic wet‑chemistry and formulation techniques; experience in wet‑lab environment handling hazardous materials.
  • Demonstrated experience with fluorochemical handling preferred.
  • Familiarity with gas or sample blending techniques.
