Why does the job exist?

Responsible for transporting residents to and from offsite medical provider appointments. Will comply with all safety passenger transporting procedures and provide positive interactive customer service to residents. Assist and/or perform direct care for residents as needed.

  • Handle medical records/medical equipment safely.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with patients.
  • Adhere to established standards to transport, perform first aide and CPR during emergency situations.

Ideal Candidate

Will have:

  • The ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • The willingness to handle difficult residents with patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
  • The ability to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.
Minimum Qualification

Certification as a Certified Medication Aide (CMA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or Nursing Aide (CNA) OR eligible to attain certification.

Employment Requirements

This position is designated safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training is required. Successful completion of a criminal background check is required. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification. Shift work and overtime are required.

Working Conditions
  • Works throughout the nursing service area (i.e., nurses stations, resident rooms, etc.).
  • Moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.,
  • May be required to drive in inclement weather and through heavy traffic.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
  • Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.
  • Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.,
  • State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
