Position Overview
The Associate Buyer supports the purchasing department by managing purchase orders, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring timely procurement of materials. This position plays a key role in data entry, inventory control, supplier communication, and production support. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain purchase orders and work orders for outside processing.
- Perform accurate data entry and regularly update procurement trackers, expedite logs, and the PPAP log.
- Maintain and update the supplier management file to ensure accurate and current information.
- Communicate with outside vendors to expedite hot orders and resolve delivery issues.
- Scan and attach packing lists (for wire, SEMS washers, and tooling) to relevant POs.
- Handle disbursement and return of materials as needed.
- Run inventory suggestions and spreadsheets for wire, SEMS washers, and tooling.
- Request and evaluate quotes for tooling, wire, and SEMS washers.
- Purchase materials including tooling, wire, and SEMS washers according to production requirements.
- Print and distribute cycle count sheets; adjust inventory based on findings.
- Perform daily inventory reports and generate weekly profit & loss summaries.
- Run open job listings; review for material availability and required components.
- Check and verify materials needed for upcoming production jobs.
- Expedite tooling purchase orders as needed to meet production deadlines.
- Release jobs to production and ensure timely delivery of all required materials.
- Print inspection sheets for wire and washers.
- Write up wire cards and validate PO pricing for wire purchases.
Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or coursework in supply chain or business a plus.
- 1–2 years of experience in a purchasing or administrative role, preferably in manufacturing.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and other Office applications; ERP/MRP system experience a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a dynamic work environment.
- Strong communication and vendor coordination skills.
Working Conditions:
- Office environment with occasional time on the production floor.
- May require lifting of documents or small packages.
- Full-time position; may require occasional overtime to meet deadlines.
