Position Summary
The Associate Buyer will procure materials in a timely manner at the best price and quality by establishing, negotiating, and maintaining cost-effective sources of supplies through the application of professional purchasing principles and practices.
Essential Functions:
- Procure materials or other goods and coordinate activities involved with purchasing products and services, such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, and advertising.
- Obtain quotes, delivery schedules, and negotiate terms and conditions; monitor supplier performance to ensure delivery, quality, and price commitments.
- Serve as liaison between vendors and PTD Design and Quality Engineering to achieve cost reductions through design changes, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Analyze and communicate specifications and market conditions to determine the best source for procurement of supplies and parts via domestic or international vendors.
- Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, vendors, and others to identify issues and take corrective actions.
- Work with manufacturers and vendors to produce custom-designed items according to company needs and specifications.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels of domestic and imported materials to support production operations.
- Read technical diagrams and specifications to develop technical solutions and expedite deliveries.
- Maintain records of supplier performance and work with suppliers to improve delivery, price, and responsiveness metrics.
- Promote a positive and professional image of the Hyosung HICO Purchasing Department through timely and cooperative interactions.
- Understand and discuss HICO’s Safety, Quality & Environmental Policies and their impact on work.
Additional Duties:
- Initiate, compose, and distribute procedures as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field, with 0-4 years of purchasing or materials coordination experience, or equivalent.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Basic understanding of contract terms and conditions.
- Proficiency with MS Office and MRP/ERP systems.
Physical and Environmental Characteristics:
- Ability to operate office equipment.
- Analytical skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel to vendor locations.
- Negotiation skills with suppliers.
