At Upway, we are committed to making electric mobility accessible to everyone. We are in the process of building the largest marketplace for brand-new and certified pre-owned e-bikes. Our goal is to offer consumers the broadest selection of e-bikes at competitive prices, all while providing the peace of mind that comes with professional reconditioning and warranties. This includes reducing waste through the extension of e-bikes' lifecycles and returning urban space to the community. Upway is an early-stage startup with backing from prestigious investment funds such as Sequoia Capital and Global Founders Capital (Rocket Internet). In our first two years, Upway has successfully expanded its operations across France, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States (our latest launch in March 2023).

Upway is hiring a Business Development Manager within its US Operations team. The operation team’s role is to create the largest and highest-quality e-bike offering for Upway shoppers, by sourcing the best e-bikes, refurbishing them and delivering them to their new owner in a seamless customer experience.

This role is open to both candidates based in the U.S. and candidates applying through a VIE program.
If you are applying through the VIE program:
  • The assignment is set to begin as soon as possible, but please allow about 3 months between your application and your potential start date.
  • The VIE assignment would last 18 months.
  • Please ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond the end date of the VIE contract to avoid any delays.
  • To be eligible for a VIE, you must meet Business France’s requirements (under 28 years old and a citizen of a European Economic Area member state). For more information on eligibility and compensation, please visit the Mon VIE-VIA Business France website.
  • Please note that if hired through a VIE, compensation is fixed according to the VIE framework, and equity options are not included.

What you will do
  • Build our partner network in a specific region
  • Everything from cold outreach to relationships management
  • Organize, execute and report on in market visits
  • Work independently with a variety of partners, from bike shops to brands
  • Prospect, negotiate and buy the best selection of 2nd hand electric bike available on the market
  • Support a high performing result driven culture among the team
  • Deliver on specific timelines and targets

What you will need
  • 3y+ years of experience in Sales, Purchasing or Operations
  • Superior negotiation skills in order to convince every partner to work with us!
  • Comfort with working in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Autonomy and ability to operate in high pace environments
  • Willingness to take ownership of topics and be accountable for results
  • Willingness to travel and possibly relocate if needed
  • Please note that this role will be based in Los Angeles with extensive traveling required
