Job summary

Enovis seeks an Associate Biomechanical Research Engineer to develop and execute testing programs for orthopedic implants and instruments. You will design test setups, perform mechanical and biomechanical evaluations, and document results to support regulatory submissions and design decisions.

The role requires hands-on lab work, data analysis, and clear technical reporting. Collaboration with engineering teams and adherence to FDA standards are essential for creating reliable, high-quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Experience with mechanical, biomechanical, and/or materials testing.
  • Experience in FDA-regulated environments, preferably orthopedic implants and instruments.
  • Ability to use laboratory equipment such as Instron tensile tester, load cells, torque gauges, 3D printers.
  • Ability to conduct data and statistical analysis using software.
  • Proficiency in 3-D CAD (SolidWorks) and Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding FDA, ISO and/or ASTM testing standards; Good Documentation Practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret scientific and technical journals; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Execute in-house mechanical product testing in support of design evaluations and regulatory submissions.

Job Title: Associate Biomechanical Research Engineer

Reports To: Sr Manager, Engineering Services

Location: Atlanta, GA

Job Title/High-Level Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the development, execution, and documentation of testing in support of MedShape's portfolio of orthopedic implants and instruments. Research, plans, designs, verifies, validates and develops mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems, such as metals, materials, medical devices, instruments, controls, plastics, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design test setups and develop protocols to collect performance data on implants, instruments, materials, and tissues.
  • Execute in-house mechanical product (materials, implant, tissues and/or instrument) testing in support of design evaluations, regulatory submissions, marketing collateral, research proposals, etc.
  • Conceptualize and model fixturing required for various test setups.
  • Create technical reports for both lab notebook studies and DHF project documentation.
  • Compile, interpret, and present data to project teams.
  • Prioritize and schedule all ongoing testing activities.
  • Provide technical support and training to other team members and students conducting testing.
  • Operate in compliance with applicable FDA regulations.
Problem Solving:
  • Ability to conceptualize designs for test fixturing and data measurement methods.
  • Ability to evaluate the fundamental performance metrics of implant, instrument, material, and tissue concepts.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve equipment technical issues and/or inconsistencies within test setups.
  • Ability to multi-task on concurrent projects with associated deliverable deadlines.
  • Minimum Basic Qualifications:
    Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or Biomedical Engineering required.
  • Experience with Mechanical, Biomechanical, and/or Material Testing desired
  • Experience in FDA regulated environment, preferably orthopedic implants and instruments desired
  • Ability to use laboratory equipment such as the Instron tensile mechanical tester, load cells, torque gauges, 3D Printers, etc.
  • Ability to conduct data and statistical analysis using a variety of software.
  • Minimum computer skills: 3-D CAD (preferably SolidWorks) and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Understanding of applicable FDA, ISO and/or ASTM testing standards.
  • Ability to apply Good Documentation Practices to test reporting.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively before large groups of employees.
  • Ability to communicate progress with supervisor and team members.
  • Ability to write for technical conferences and scientific journals.
