Job summary

Mayer LLP in Houston is seeking a litigation attorney to represent clients in transportation and personal injury matters, from investigations to trial. You will craft defense strategies for individuals and insurers, handle pleadings and discovery, and collaborate with a small team to manage case strategy and travel as needed.

The ideal candidate has a JD, Texas bar admission, and at least 2 years in litigation/insurance defense; strong research, writing, and negotiation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the State Bar of Texas.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in litigation/insurance defense/personal injury.
• Strong research and writing skills, specifically for complex motions practice.
• Excellent oral communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Willingness to travel when necessary.
• Experience handling cases from inception to final resolution.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients in transportation and personal injury matters, including auto accidents and truck crashes.
• Provide comprehensive legal counsel and defense strategies to individuals, businesses, and insurers.
• Investigate accidents, analyze evidence, assess liability, and tailor defenses.
• Represent clients in negotiations, mediation, and court proceedings.
• Draft pleadings, motions, and discovery requests; prepare for depositions and trials.
• Communicate with clients, opposing counsel and court personnel; manage case strategy.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients involved in various transportation related incidents, including auto accidents, tractor/trailer collisions, fatalities, and motor vehicle accidents (MVA)
• Provide comprehensive legal counsel and defense strategies to individuals, businesses, and insurance companies operating within the transportation/trucking industry
• Conduct thorough investigations into accidents, analyze evidence, asses liability, and develop defense strategies tailored to each case's unique circumstances
• Represent clients in negotiations, mediation, and court proceedings
• Conduct legal research and provide legal analysis on various issues related to transportation and personal injury law
• Draft pleadings, motions, and discovery requests
• Prepare for and attend depositions, hearings, and trials
• Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel
• Participate in case strategy discussions and negotiations
• Manage case files and maintain accurate and organized records
• Will work on both high-exposure personal injury matters with a small team of lawyers as well as lower-exposure matters as the primary attorney managing the case

Experience

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
• Admission to the State Bar of Texas
• The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in litigation/insurance defense/personal injury
• Strong research and writing skills, specifically for complex motions practice
