A well-established law firm in New Haven, CT, is seeking an Associate Attorney with at least two years of experience in trusts and estates law. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in special needs planning and be eager to work in a dynamic, nationally recognized private client practice. The role offers an opportunity to work closely with a multidisciplinary team addressing complex legal issues related to estate planning, wealth transfer, fiduciary matters, and charitable giving, within a collaborative hybrid work environment.
Duties:
Handle legal matters involving estate planning, trust administration, and succession planning
Provide counsel on matters involving special needs planning and fiduciary responsibilities
Assist with estate and income taxation strategies, retirement asset planning, and charitable giving
Collaborate with attorneys from other disciplines, such as corporate, tax, and real estate
Work with clients including high-net-worth individuals, family offices, fiduciaries, and nonprofit organizations
Contribute to the development of tailored solutions for clients’ personal and business objectives
Participate in the administration of complex estates and trusts
Engage in mentorship opportunities and participate in professional development initiatives
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of relevant legal experience in trusts and estates planning and administration
Demonstrated interest and/or experience in planning for individuals with special needs
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
Proven problem-solving capabilities and ability to develop innovative legal strategies
Membership in the Connecticut State Bar in good standing (required)
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Connecticut Bar Admission (required)
Additional certifications in estate planning or elder law (preferred)
Skills:
In-depth understanding of estate and tax laws
Familiarity with succession and wealth transfer strategies
Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
Comfort working in a team-based, cross-functional legal environment
Proficiency in legal research tools and estate planning software
