Associate Attorney – Office of the New York State Attorney General

Pay Range

Base salary: $83,594.00–$178,463.00 per year. Actual pay will be based on your skills and experience – talk with your recruiter for details.

Responsibilities

The Office’s Litigation Bureau in Albany seeks attorneys to handle state and federal litigation generally initiated by persons either incarcerated or formerly incarcerated in New York state prisons. In the Incarcerated Individuals Litigation Section, attorneys manage all phases of litigation—from pleading and discovery to motions—and with satisfactory performance may participate in trials, initially as a limited second chair and potentially advancing to first chair. Attorneys also handle certain matters in the New York State Supreme Court, including Article 78 petitions filed by incarcerated individuals and petitions for vital records release.

Qualifications
  • Must be admitted to practice law in New York State.
  • Excellent lawyering skills, including research, writing, and legal analysis.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal communication, problem‑solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Comfort with and proficiency using technology to complete legal work; prior knowledge of and experience using various computer software programs and case‑management and electronic discovery platforms is desirable.
  • Availability for some travel within New York State.
