Job summary

Hawkins Parnell & Young LLP seeks an Associate Attorney in its New York office with 3–6 years of defense litigation experience, including toxic tort exposure. You will participate in all stages of cases and may appear in court as part of a team of seasoned attorneys handling civil litigation.

The ideal candidate drafts key motions and written discovery, takes and defends depositions, and contributes to pretrial motions and discovery disputes while maintaining deadlines and client focus.

Qualifications

• Active license and good standing to practice in New York.
• 3–6 years experience in defense litigation; toxic tort experience a plus.
• Extensive deposition experience and ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of litigated claims preparing for trial and developing defense strategies.
• Attend depositions, hearings, and/or mediations.
• Analyze discovery materials, medical records, and expert strategies for defense.
• Research legal issues and investigate people, businesses, and worksites.
• Draft briefs, memos, and client updates.

Hawkins Parnell & Young LLP is seeking an Associate Attorney with 3 6 years of experience for its New York office At Hawkins Parnell & Young you will have the opportunity to participate in all stages of cases and to make court appearances as part of a team of seasoned attorneys handling toxic tort cases and civil litigation The ideal candidate will have experience drafting critical motions and written discovery taking and defending depositions and participating in pretrial motions and discovery disputes

What You Will Be Doing

• Managing a caseload of litigated claims by preparing them for trial including developing case specific defense strategies
• Attending depositions hearings andor mediations
• Analyzing discovery medical records expert defense strategy and motion practice
• Researching legal issues and investigating people businesses and worksites
• Drafting of briefs memos and client updates

What You Need to Bring

• Actively licensed and in good standing with the State of New York
• 3 6 years experience in defense litigation with toxic tort experience a plus
• Substantial deposition experience
• Ability to thrive in a high paced environment requiring exceptional organizational skills juggling priorities and adhering to strict deadlines
• Client focused mentality
• Must be a self starter who can handle multiple projects with competing priorities and understand the importance of deadlines
• Ability to work flexibly and independently within a strong team
