Responsibilities

Associate Attorney — Commercial & Insurance Coverage Litigation

Base salary: $115,000–$175,000, depending on experience

Trueline is seeking an Associate Attorney for a litigation boutique serving the insurance industry in Parsippany, New Jersey. This opportunity offers sophisticated legal work, direct access to experienced attorneys, and meaningful responsibility within a small, collaborative firm.

Attorneys with 1–8 years of experience are encouraged to apply, including recent graduates and candidates completing judicial clerkships. Insurance experience is a plus, but strong research, writing, and analytical skills—and a genuine interest in developing as a litigator—are essential.

What You’ll Do

• Handle complex commercial litigation involving insurance companies, business disputes, and contract disputes.
• Research insurance coverage issues and draft coverage opinions.
• Support coverage litigation and declaratory judgment actions.
• Work on claims handling disputes and errors and omissions (E&O) matters.
• Draft briefs, motions, pleadings, and other substantive legal documents.
• Participate in discovery, depositions, court appearances, and case strategy as experience permits.
• Collaborate closely with experienced attorneys and take increasing ownership of matters.

The practice focuses on commercial and coverage litigation for the insurance industry rather than traditional insurance defense. Candidates with insurance defense backgrounds are welcome to apply.

What You’ll Bring

• A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Active New Jersey bar admission. Recent graduates awaiting July bar results will also be considered.
• New York admission is strongly preferred.
• Approximately 1–8 years of legal experience; recent graduates and judicial law clerks are welcome.
• Substantive litigation experience for candidates with 6–8 years of experience.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Initiative, attention to detail, and a commitment to learning and taking ownership of your work.
• Willingness to work fully onsite in Parsippany, five days per week.

Relevant backgrounds include insurance coverage, complex commercial litigation, bad faith, professional liability, E&O, and insurance defense. Prior coverage experience is not required for junior candidates.

Compensation & Benefits

• $115,000–$175,000 base salary, depending on experience and qualifications, with flexibility for the right candidate. Compensation toward the top of the range generally requires at least 5–6 years of relevant experience.
• Discretionary bonus based on firm performance, individual merit, and production.
• Annual billable-hour expectation of at least 1,900 hours. Production of 2,000 hours is a factor in consideration for the highest discretionary bonuses; bonuses may also be paid below that level.
• Employer pays 80% of health, dental, and vision insurance premiums.
• 401(k) match up to 4% of salary, with a 5% employee contribution required to receive the full match.
• Direct mentorship and opportunities to build substantive litigation experience and assume greater responsibility.

Location & Interview Process

This position is based exclusively in Parsippany, New Jersey, and requires onsite attendance five days per week. Hybrid and remote arrangements are not available at hire.
