Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients regarding case status, next steps, deadlines, and legal process under supervision.

  • Assist with developing case strategy, preparing for hearings, and organizing exhibits.

  • Maintain accurate case records, deadlines, notes, and time entries in the case management system.

COMPANY

Arsenal Law is seeking a motivated associate attorney who is eager to learn, take ownership of cases under supervision, and develop strong advocacy and client communication skills. Arsenal Law handles primarily family law and estate planning matters and values professionalism, responsiveness, ethical practice, and a high-quality client experience.

SUMMARY

The person in this role is responsible for assisting with and managing family law cases, including meeting with clients, preparing legal documents, conducting legal research, attending hearings and court proceedings, negotiating and communicating with opposing parties or counsel, and helping clients understand the legal process. This position is intended for an attorney with limited experience or a newly licensed attorney who is ready to learn through hands-on experience, mentorship, and direct client work. The associate attorney should be willing to grow with the firm, contribute to internal processes, develop an online brand through use of social media, and provide excellent service to clients during difficult and often emotional legal matters.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Work Experience
  • Newly licensed attorneys and attorneys with prior experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Prior experience, coursework, internship, clinic work, or clerkship experience in family law, estate planning, litigation, mediation, or client counseling preferred.
  • Prior customer service, office, or professional communication experience preferred.
Education and Licensing
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school required.
  • Active license to practice law in Arizona, or pending admission to the State Bar of Arizona, required.
Technical Skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Comfortable using computers, electronic filing systems, case management software, and cloud-based document storage.
  • Familiarity with MyCase, Dropbox, legal research tools, Arizona court filing systems, and Microsoft Teams preferred.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Meet and communicate with clients regarding case status, next steps, deadlines, and legal process under the supervision and direction of the supervising attorney.
  • Prepare, draft, and review pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, settlement documents, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct legal research and analyze statutes, rules, case law, and legal issues relevant to client matters.
  • Assist with developing case strategy, preparing for hearings, organizing exhibits, and evaluating evidence and facts.
  • Attend court hearings, conferences, mediations, and other proceedings as appropriate based on experience and supervision.
  • Communicate professionally with opposing counsel, court personnel, clients, witnesses, and other external contacts.
  • Assist clients with discovery, disclosures, document gathering, and hearing preparation.
  • Maintain accurate case records, deadlines, notes, time entries, and task updates in the firm’s case management system.
  • Participate in firm meetings, training, process development, and efforts to improve client service and office efficiency.
  • Assist the office as needed, including supporting other attorneys and staff with case-related and administrative tasks.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including professional tone, clear legal writing, and the ability to explain information effectively to clients.
  • Must possess strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze legal issues, evaluate facts, solve problems, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to establish, develop, and maintain professional relationships with clients, court personnel, opposing counsel, and team members.
  • Comfortable working with clients during stressful and emotionally sensitive situations while maintaining professionalism and appropriate boundaries.
  • Must be coachable, dependable, proactive, and willing to learn the practical skills required for family law practice.
  • Adheres to and acts in accordance with legal ethical standards, including the Arizona Rules of Professional Conduct and requirements of the State Bar of Arizona.
