Job summary

Blitt and Gaines, P.C. seeks an Associate Attorney in Kansas to gain extensive courtroom experience through regular appearances on behalf of the firm. You will review new claims, manage a contested litigation queue, and support all litigation processes.

This role emphasizes compliance, process controls, and client policy adherence. The position offers no billable hour requirements and a competitive benefits package, including PTO, holidays, medical/dental/vision, life insurance, and a 401(k)

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate required and Kansas bar admission.
• Licenses in other states (Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee, or Wisconsin) are valuable.

Responsibilities

• Appear in court on behalf of the firm at least three days per week.
• Review new claims for compliance with firm and client standards.
• Review and approve pleadings filed with courts, including complaints and motions.
• Draft motions and responses as needed and argue contested motions.
• Conduct trials and arbitrations and manage communications with opposing counsel.
• Oversee discovery responses and counterclaims for the firm or its clients.

Job Summary:

The Associate Attorney position will gain extensive courtroom experience through regular appearances on behalf of the firm. This role is responsible for reviewing new claims and pleadings, managing a contested litigation queue, and supporting all aspects of the litigation process. Associates will develop comprehensive knowledge of court procedures, internal controls, and firm and client policies. This position has no billable hour requirements.

Essential Duties:

• Appear in court on behalf of the firm a minimum of three days per week.
• Review new claims for compliance with firm and client standards.
• Review and approve pleadings filed with the courts, including complaints and motions.
• Occasionally draft motions and responses for contested matters as needed.
• Argue contested motions and conduct trials and arbitrations.
• Manage telephonic and written communication with opposing counsel.
• Prepare and respond to discovery or oversee counterclaims involving the firm or its clients.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

• Juris Doctorate and admission to the Kansas bar required.
• Additional licenses in states where the firm operates are valuable: Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee, or Wisconsin

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Experience with Collection Master or equivalent case management systems preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of staff, judges, opposing counsel, and court clerks.
• Demonstrated tact, discretion, and courtesy in professional interactions.
• Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, manage timelines, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records with strong attention to detail.

Salary Description

$75K - $125K
