The attorney will work with senior attorneys on family law, business and employment matters, gaining hands-on experience and opportunities for professional growth, with a target of 1,800 billable hours annually.

Qualifications

Saxton & Stump is seeking a motivated and talented Associate Attorney to join our growing Charleston, South Carolina office. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop a diverse litigation practice, working primarily with our Family Law Group while also supporting the firm’s Business Litigation and Employment Law practices.

The ideal candidate will possess strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills, along with a commitment to providing exceptional client service. This attorney will work collaboratively with experienced attorneys on a broad range of family law, general business and commercial litigation, and employment-related matters, while gaining meaningful hands‑on experience and opportunities for professional growth.

More About the Role

• Represent clients in a variety of family law, business, commercial, and employment litigation matters, from initial consultation through resolution.
• Assist with family law matters involving divorce, equitable distribution, child custody, support, and related domestic relations issues.
• Handle general business and commercial disputes, including contract disputes, business torts, partnership or ownership disputes, and other civil litigation matters.
• Assist with employment litigation matters, including disputes involving employment agreements, restrictive covenants, discrimination, retaliation, wage-and-hour issues, and other workplace‑related claims.
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, briefs, memoranda, and other legal documents.
• Conduct legal research and develop effective case strategies.
• Participate in depositions, mediations, hearings, negotiations, and trials.
• Manage case deadlines, discovery obligations, and client communications.
• Work closely with shareholders, senior attorneys, paralegals, and other legal professionals to deliver high‑quality legal services.
• Maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication, sound judgment, and practical legal advice.
• Meet an annual billable hour goal of 1,800 hours, while maintaining the firm's standards for quality, efficiency, and client service.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
• Active license to practice law in South Carolina and in good standing.
• 2–5 years of experience.
• Prior litigation experience, particularly in family law, business litigation, and employment litigation
• Strong legal research, analytical, and written and oral communication skills.
• Experience drafting pleadings, managing discovery, and preparing for court proceedings.
• Ability to manage multiple matters, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team‑oriented approach.
• Demonstrated professionalism, initiative, and commitment to client service.
• Interest in building a long‑term, diverse litigation practice in the Charleston market.
