Associate Attorney
Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our civil litigation team with a focus on premises liability, general liability, and insurance defense. The Associate Attorney will manage a docket of defense matters, develop case strategy, draft pleadings and motions, handle discovery, conduct depositions, and represent clients at hearings and trials as needed. This role requires strong litigation skills, client-focused communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with senior attorneys and insurance carriers to achieve efficient, favorable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a diverse caseload of premises liability, general liability, and insurance defense matters from intake through resolution.
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court documents; prepare memoranda and legal research to support case strategy.
  • Handle all phases of discovery including written discovery, document review, responses, and depositions.
  • Appear at status conferences, hearings, mediations, and trials; prepare witnesses and co-counsel for courtroom proceedings.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, claims adjusters, experts, and opposing counsel to develop strategy, negotiate settlements, and maintain case progress.
  • Work closely with senior attorneys to develop defense strategies, evaluate risk, and make litigation decisions.
  • Manage file organization, calendaring, billing entries, and meet deadlines and court-imposed timelines.
  • Coordinate with experts, investigators, and vendors; review and prepare reports and evidence for trial.
  • Assist in training and supervising junior staff and paralegals on litigation procedures and best practices.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by maintaining client relationships and assisting with proposals and pitches.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active admission to the state bar in good standing.
  • 2+ years of civil litigation experience, with demonstrated experience or strong interest in premises liability, general liability, and insurance defense preferred.
  • Proven courtroom experience, including hearings, depositions, and trial participation.
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, and written advocacy skills; demonstrated ability to prepare persuasive motions and briefs.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience resolving claims through mediation or settlement when appropriate.
  • Ability to manage a busy docket, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate billing records.
  • Professional, client-focused communication skills and the ability to work effectively with insurers, clients, co-counsel, and opposing counsel.
  • Proficiency with litigation management software, e-discovery platforms, and standard office productivity tools.
  • High ethical standards, sound judgment, and a collaborative attitude toward team-based practice.
