Associate Athletic Trainer (Head Football Athletic Trainer) - Syracuse University

Job Description:

The Associate Athletic Trainer (Head Football Athletic Trainer) will assist in education, assignments, evaluation, and supervision of the department’s Staff Athletic Trainers including game coverage. This role provides quality comprehensive care for student-athletes through prevention, evaluation, care, and treatment of injuries and illnesses, and assists with injury rehabilitation. The Associate Athletic Trainer will screen and refer student-athletes to team physicians when appropriate and serve as a staff athletic trainer including practice/game coverage and team travel. Responsibilities include compiling and maintaining injury and treatment documentation for the Sports Medicine Department and assisting with the supervision and daily operation of the Athletic Training Facility. This position also involves establishing, coordinating, supervising, and monitoring athletic training services for all student-athletes.

The Associate Athletic Trainer will communicate with coaches and athletic department staff on various issues, including but not limited to: Sports Medicine Department policies and procedures, student-athlete status, restrictions, treatment/rehabilitation, appointment compliance, and progress. Assist team physician and staff with the operation of the physician’s clinic.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in a health-related field (Preferred).
  • Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC).
  • New York Athletic Training Certification eligible by the start of employment.
  • 5-10 plus years of work experience at a Division One institution (Preferred).

Skills and Knowledge:

  • CPR Certified.
  • Certified in Functional Movement Screening (Preferred).

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a staff athletic trainer for teams as assigned (Head Football Athletic Trainer).
  • Provide quality comprehensive care for all student-athletes through prevention, evaluation, care, and treatment of injuries and illnesses and assist with injury rehabilitation.
  • Travel nationally and internationally with the team.
  • Oversight and supervision of the Athletic Training Facility and staff athletic trainers.
  • Compile and maintain injury and treatment documentation for the Sports Medicine Department including injury tracking and reporting – assist with supervision of the Electronic Medical Records.
  • Assist with establishing, coordinating, supervising, and monitoring athletics training services to all student-athletes.
  • Perform administrative job duties within the Sports Medicine Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.
