Job description

Blue Matter is a rapidly growing management consultancy focused in the biopharmaceutical industry. We partner with our clients to help them achieve commercial success across the lifecycle of their products, portfolios, and organizations. Our project types include providing decision support through insights and analytics for new product planning, launch strategy, portfolio / disease area strategy, and organizational strategy / change management. Most of our work is in specialty therapeutics, with oncology and rare diseases a specific area of expertise.

Blue Matter Insights (BMI) is our specialized insights CoE, uniquely combining sophisticated quantitative analytics with strategic pharmaceutical consulting. BMI consultants work side-by-side with strategy team members on high-stakes client engagements. Our lean, entrepreneurial structure accelerates your growth: high performers quickly progress from executing analyses to leading workstreams to managing client relationships. You'll gain exposure to diverse therapeutic areas and challenging problems (launch forecasting, portfolio optimization, omnichannel strategy) while building expertise across proprietary technology platforms and advanced analytical methods. Working directly with senior leaders invested in your development, you'll tackle challenging problems and help build new capabilities that become part of BMI's competitive edge.

We have a unique entrepreneurial culture and invest in building Blue Matter as the best place to work for our team. We have offices in NY, San Francisco, Boston, London, Zurich, Mumbai & Gurgaon.

As an Associate / Associate Consultant in the Analytics practice, you will be an integral part of project teams delivering data-driven solutions to pharmaceutical and life sciences clients. You will build foundational analytical skills while contributing to work that drives real commercial impact—supported by a team that wins together and a culture that rewards curiosity.

Primary Responsibilities
Analytics Execution & Data Management
  • Execute analyses leveraging secondary data sources, commercial datasets, and primary research outputs to support strategic client questions
  • Build and maintain analytical models including segmentation, forecasting, regression, and market sizing under the guidance of senior team members
  • Structure, clean, and synthesize complex datasets from sources such as IQVIA, claims/EMR data, and proprietary survey data to uncover actionable patterns
  • Develop dashboards, visualizations, and analytical tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) that enable teams to interpret and act on findings
  • Ensure data integrity and analytical rigor through systematic quality control processes
Communication & Collaboration
  • Translate analytical findings into clear, concise summaries for internal project teams, contributing to deliverable development
  • Support the creation of client-ready presentations, reports, and executive summaries under senior guidance
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams spanning market research, strategy consulting, and technology—always solving for the “so what” behind the data
  • Participate in internal project meetings and contribute analytical perspectives to team discussions
Problem-Solving & Professional Growth
  • Apply structured problem-solving approaches to break down analytical tasks within broader project plans
  • Proactively seek to understand the business context behind each analysis—building commercial intuition alongside technical skills
  • Identify opportunities to improve analytical processes, tools, and methodologies and share learnings with the team
  • Growth Opportunity: As you develop, you will take on increasing client interaction, present findings directly to stakeholders, and begin mentoring newer team members.
Desired Experience & Skills
Technical & Analytical
  • Proficiency with Python, R, SQL, SAS, or similar statistical software
  • Advanced Excel skills including complex modeling, data manipulation, and automation (VBA a plus)
  • Experience with data visualization platforms (Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
  • Strong quantitative reasoning and ability to select appropriate statistical methodologies
  • Exposure to pharmaceutical commercial data (e.g., prescription data, claims data, market research datasets) preferred
Communication & Work Management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain analytical work clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Solid PowerPoint skills for contributing to executive-quality presentations
  • Demonstrated accountability, attention to detail, and strong time management
  • Intellectual curiosity and drive for continuous learning
Business & Domain Awareness (Nice to have)
  • Foundational understanding of pharmaceutical commercial operations (sales force effectiveness, market access, launch planning)
  • Familiarity with therapeutic area dynamics, competitive landscapes, and the broader healthcare ecosystem
  • Eagerness to build domain knowledge and translate business questions into analytical frameworks
Qualifications
  • BS degree in life sciences, statistics, mathematics, engineering, economics, or related quantitative field (MS/PhD preferred)
  • 1–4 years of experience in quantitative analytics, preferably within life sciences consulting, pharmaceutical industry, or healthcare analytics (Associate: 0-1 years, Associate Consultant: 2-4 years + BS degree, or 2 years + MS degree)
Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: $70,000 – $130,000 per year. Generous incentive compensation structure.
