WSP is seeking an Associate Arboricultural Consultant to lead complex arboricultural commissions, manage budgets, and deliver client-focused solutions within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team delivering arboricultural and forestry services across the UK.

You will mentor colleagues, develop career pathways, and help grow our national capability, with hybrid working and structured progression supported by mentoring, training budgets and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Substantial arboricultural consultancy experience leading complex projects.
  • Track record in major infrastructure projects (DCO/NSIP, EIA) or public sector frameworks.
  • Strong ability to review technical work and communicate complex information clearly.
  • Commercial confidence in pricing, scope management, and project controls.
  • Experience mentoring and developing others, identifying skills gaps.
  • Ability to support work winning and maintain client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Direct complex arboricultural commissions, ensuring quality, budget, programme and client requirements are met.
  • Develop and review technical approaches for BS5837, EIA, DCO/NSIP, veteran/ancient tree and construction-stage deliverables.
  • Support people managers in developing career pathways, mentoring arrangements and technical training.
  • Build relationships with clients, authorities, industry bodies and internal disciplines to generate work and create value.
  • Drive best practice, QA consistency, knowledge management and continuous improvement across the team.

Shape capability, deliver complex commissions and grow client relationships. At WSP, you’ll join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team delivering commercially balanced and innovative arboricultural solutions for clients across the UK. As an Associate Arboricultural Consultant, you’ll combine senior technical delivery, commercial leadership, people development and client growth, helping build a sustainable national arboriculture and forestry offer integrated with the wider Nature Services business.

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For
Essential
  • Substantial arboricultural consultancy experience with a record of leading complex projects.
  • Track record in major infrastructure, DCO/NSIP, EIA, public sector frameworks or expert evidence.
  • Strong technical review capability and ability to communicate complex information clearly.
  • Commercial confidence in pricing, scope management, project controls and risk/opportunity management.
  • Experience mentoring and developing others, including identifying skills gaps and training needs.
  • Ability to support work winning and maintain strong client relationships.
Desirable
  • Chartered status or advanced professional membership such as MArborA, MICFor, CEnv or equivalent.
  • Experience developing national guidance, templates, training modules or innovation initiatives.
  • Cross-disciplinary experience with ecology, landscape, biodiversity net gain, climate resilience, GIS or digital advisory.
