Job Summary
This senior level actuarial analyst position participates in Highmark’s Actuarial Executive Development Program and is expected to progress towards actuarial credentials. The analyst defines and diagnoses problems, outlines data requirements for studies or analyses, and devises potential solutions. The role guides and mentors less experienced staff, provides decision support, and leads the development of actuarial studies, analyses, and presentation materials. The analyst applies actuarial techniques and statistical analysis to functions such as premium and price development, claim trend analysis, experience studies, medical economics, profitability analysis, wellness studies, predictive modeling, provider efficiency, provider contracting analysis, or claim reserving.
Essential Responsibilities
- Define and diagnose a problem, outline data requirements, and devise potential solutions; review results and consider alternate explanations.
- Create studies, analyses, and presentation materials to inform decision makers; provide recommendations to management.
- Ensure internal and external consistency of all work, perform reasonableness checks, and exceed customer expectations.
- Engage knowledge forums, demonstrate subject matter expertise, identify outliers and anomalies, and seek continual feedback.
- Understand the environment and objectives, propose new processes, and implement changes to improve outcomes.
- Manage time and resources across multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and operate in a dynamic environment.
- Interact with stakeholders to foster cooperation and explain technical work to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Guide and mentor less experienced staff, listen to feedback, and take on additional work as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Education
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related discipline.
Preferred
- Master’s Degree or equivalent in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related discipline.
Experience
Required
- 3 years experience in an actuarial role.
- 6 exam components completed.
Preferred
- 10 or more exam components completed.

- In-depth knowledge of actuarial principles, concepts, practices and processes across multiple disciplines.

- Travel Requirement: 0% – 25%.
- Physical, Mental Demands and Working Conditions: Office‑based position with frequent travel. Requires reading, writing, listening, speaking, and ability to stand and move. Work is primarily sedentary. Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. No extensive physical exertion required.
