Job summary

WS Development in the United States seeks an Associate to join the Asset Strategy & Development team. You will support the ownership, management, and growth of the retail real estate portfolio, collaborating with internal teams and external partners.

Responsibilities include CapEx project management, due diligence, regulatory research, plan review, and coordination across stakeholders to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in real estate, construction management, engineering, architecture, or related field preferred.
  • 1–5 years of experience in real estate development, construction management, asset management, property management, or related field.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and technical documents.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with AS&D Lead on day-to-day operations and development of shopping centers, including budgets and operating plans.
  • Manage third-party service providers and coordinate across internal teams and tenants.
  • Lead CapEx projects: prepare RFPs, solicit/evaluate bids, negotiate contracts, oversee execution and closeout.
  • Support development projects within centers, due diligence, regulatory research, document organization, schedule and budget compliance.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for tenants and address operational needs / lease term clarifications.
  • Conduct regular center visits to ensure safe, code-compliant operations; assist with invoicing and cost controls.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Associate to join our Asset Strategy & Development team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the ownership, management, and growth of WS Development's retail real estate portfolio. The ideal candidate brings a foundational understanding of real estate operations, strong organizational instincts, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external partners.

Overview

  • Partner with the Asset Strategy & Development (AS&D) Lead on day-to-day operations and development of the Company's shopping centers, including implementation of business plans and operating budgets.The Associate will be responsible for managing third-party service providers.
  • Communicate effectively with internal cross-functional teams, tenants, and third-party service providers to maximize the performance of our shopping centers.
  • Manage capital improvement (CapEx) projects by preparing RFPs,solicitingand evaluating bids, negotiating contracts, and overseeing project execution and closeout. Projects may include roof replacement, sidewalk repair, parking lot maintenance, painting, and landscaping.
  • Support development projects within existing shopping centers, including due diligence, regulatory research, plan review, document organization, schedule and budget compliance, and coordination across internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Serve as the AS&D point of contact for tenants by addressing operational needs, answering routine questions, and researching lease terms to clarify landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities.
  • Conduct regular shopping center visits to ensure efficient, clean, safe, and code-compliant operations.
  • Partner with the Accounting department tofacilitatetimelypayment of operating costs, resolve billing and invoice questions, and support adherence to operational and capital budgets.
  • Bachelor's degreerequired; degree in real estate, construction management, engineering, architecture, ora relatedfield preferred.
  • 1–5 years of experience in real estate development, construction management, asset management, property management, ora relatedfield.
  • Prior experience with a developer, real estate owner/operator, architect, or engineer strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and technical documents.
  • Experience reviewing LOIs and leases.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and workstreams simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate across internal teams and external partners.
  • Proficiencyin Microsoft Office; experience withBluebeama plus.
  • Experience with operating budgets,CapExproject execution, and invoice processinga plus.
  • Passion for real estate with a strong work ethic.

The expected salary range for this position is $70,000-$77,000 per year. Actual compensation will be based on factors such as skills, qualifications, experience, and location. This role is also eligible toparticipatein our annual bonus program.
