The Associate Director for Collection Management overseesmonographic collection development in social sciences andhumanities at the university level working under the direction ofthe Director of Collections. The Associate Director also engages ina range of collection assessment activities; provides leadershipfor collection-related initiatives and events; and interacts withlibrary vendors, publishers, and suppliers to achieve anappropriate mix of resources to best serve the user community ofthe University Libraries. The Liaison Librarian for Social Sciencesand History provides outreach to the College of Liberal Arts andHuman Sciences and serves as liaison to selected departments andprograms within the college. In the absence of the Director ofCollections, the Associate Director oversees operations to ensurecontinuity of service.

Required Qualifications

• -A terminal degree in a field related to the job duties, such as aMasters in Library and/or Information Science (MLS, MLIS, MIS, etc)from an ALA-accredited graduate program
• -Comprehensive knowledge of established and emerging acquisitionmodels and best practices.
• -Experience providing reference and instructional service toundergraduates, graduate students and faculty
• -Experience applying collections management best practices andcurrent trends to a mid-to-large academic or research librarycollection.
• -Broad knowledge of bibliographic sources and electronicdatabases;
• -Demonstrates strong communication skills when engaging withstudents one-on-one and in group environments.
• -Scholarly record consistent with the expectations for libraryfaculty on the continued appointment track at Virginia Tech.
• -Works effectively both independently and collaboratively withcolleagues, faculty, and staff to achieve organizationalgoals.

Preferred Qualifications

• -Graduate degree in one or more of the liaison fields.
• -Experience with library budgeting and budget planning.
• -Experience in project management.
• -Experience in contract negotiation and/or in establishing andmaintaining effective relationships with vendors, consortia, andpublishers.
