West Valley High School Athletics in Yakima, WA is seeking an Assistant Wrestling Coach for the winter season. The role reports to the Athletic Director, Principal, and Head Wrestling Coach. Qualifications

• Current First Aid/CPR card required.
• Experience coaching wrestling at the high school level preferred.
• Previous wrestling coaching experience in secondary school or comparable program within the past 5 years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Attend coaches meetings, practice sessions and matches as scheduled.

• Assist varsity coach and be mentored by him/her.
• Enforce WVSD and WIAA rules for athletes.
• Supervise school equipment and facilities usage.
• Help keep accurate statistics and share with coaches/media.
• Promote interscholastic program and align with school activities.
• Attend pre- and post-season evaluation meetings; perform duties as assigned.

Job Description

THIS POSITION IS DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: West Valley High School Athletic Director, Principal, and Head Wrestling Coach.

TIME:

Dates Activity Starts and Finishes (approximate): November - February (Winter Sports Season)

Weeks per season/year: 14

Total number of days required with students: 63-78

Number of hours per week with students: 15-30

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Number of students under your supervision: 20-50

Equipment Care, Maintenance and Inventory: Yes

Duties: Attend coaches meetings, practice session, matches as scheduled. Organize and conduct practices and games, providing Athletic Director with copies of practice schedules and plans. Assist the varsity coach and be willing to be mentored by him/her. Assist in articulating and enforcing WVSD and WIAA rules/regulations for athletes. Properly supervise school equipment and facilities usage. Help varsity coach to keep accurate statistics and disseminate to appropriate coaches/league/media sources. Teach and model the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship during practices and contests. Assist in developing a budget for basic equipment (ASB Budget) and for capital needs (Levy/General Budget). Promote the entire interscholastic program of the school and direct the program in harmony with the total school program. Be thoroughly acquainted with the contest rules and ensure that your athletes are aware of them as well. Maintain WIAA coaching standards and work toward becoming a master coach. Emphasize safety precautions, and be aware of the best training and injury procedures. Attend meetings as called by the athletic/activities director. The pre- and post-season (evaluation) meetings are required as part of the coaching contract. Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Credentials: Current First Aid/CPR card required.

Education: 4-year degree required.

Experience: Previous wrestling experience at the high school level preferred, college preferred.

Previous wrestling coaching experience in secondary school/comparable community program within the past 5 years preferred.

The successful candidate will work to instill the highest desirable ideals of character and ensure that the welfare of each student/athlete is always held in the highest regard. The candidate should have the ability to be an independent, critical thinker as well as a team player. The ability to plan practices, events, and organize all the necessary materials and persons to carry out the sport/activity is highly valued. Must be able to meet scheduled responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities and a consistent basis.
