Job summary

The University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, KS is seeking an Assistant Wrestling Coach to help plan and direct the program in alignment with USM's mission.

You will support recruitment, monitor academic progress, conduct on-mat coaching, and coordinate equipment, travel, and game promotions under the Head Coach's guidance.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years related experience.
• Ability to work nights and weekends with travel.
• Ability to lift 30–50 lbs and stand for long periods.
• Able to demonstrate wrestling techniques and participate safely in wrestling drills and live wrestling with student-athletes.
• Ability to demonstrate wrestling techniques and lead live drills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the conduct, discipline and positive character development of student-athletes.
• Assist with student-athletes in personal development and academic success.
• Teach and promote the USM Mission values of community, respect, justice and excellence.
• Assist with the coordination of recruitment of quality student-athletes.

• Perform sport specific coaching duties as determined by the Head Coach.
• Assist in inventory management, distribution, and collection of equipment and uniforms.
• Work with the Athletic Department in all sport promotions, fundraising, and recruitment efforts.
• Assist with Athletic Department game and event management.
• Perform on-mat coaching and participate in wrestling drills with student-athletes.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist with the planning and direction the activities of the USM Wrestling program ensuring that the team follows the direction and mission of USM and the Athletic Department. Primary duties include assisting the Head Coach with assigned sport specific skills, recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist with the conduct, discipline and positive character development of student-athletes by using the guidelines and principles of the USM Mission and the NAIA Champions of Character initiative.
• Assist with student-athletes in personal development and academic success.
• Teach and promote the USM Mission values of community, respect, justice and excellence.
• Assist with the coordination of recruitment of quality student-athletes.
• Assist with the retention of student athletes through intense monitoring of academic performance.
• Perform sport specific coaching duties as determined by the Head Coach.
• Assists in inventory management, distribution, and collection of equipment and uniforms.
• Works with the Athletic Department in all sport promotions, fundraising, and recruitment efforts.
• Assist with USM Athletic Department game and event management.
• Perform on-mat coaching and participate in wrestling drills with student-athletes as directed by the Head Coach.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned the Head Coach.

REQUIREMENTS:

• 2-3 years related experience.
• Able to work nights and weekends with capabilities to travel.
• Ability to lift 30 to 50 lbs. and sit or stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to demonstrate wrestling techniques and safely participate in wrestling drills and live wrestling with student-athletes.
• Must be twenty-one (21) years or older and be able to successfully complete and maintain the approved driver certification.
