Job description

With 31 varsity sports, Columbia Athletics is the largest NCAA Division I athletics program in New York City and the only NCAA Division I sports program in Manhattan. The Assistant Volleyball Coach provides administrative, instructional, and recruiting support under the supervision of the Head Volleyball Coach.

Responsibilities:
  1. Achieve a high level of competency in volleyball skill instruction, motivation, and conducting practice sessions under the direction of the Head Volleyball Coach.
  2. Organize, manage, and execute recruitment of high-level student-athletes, maintaining all relevant records in recruiting and compliance software.
  3. Demonstrate a sincere commitment to the social, emotional, academic, and athletic development of student-athletes.
  4. Support and cooperate in achieving the sport program goals established by the Head Volleyball Coach.
  5. Exhibit leadership and professionalism in dealing with student-athletes.
  6. Complete assignments from the Head Volleyball Coach, including budget management, scheduling, fundraising, data collection and analysis, practice planning, and operational planning.
  7. Teach in the required Physical Education program.
  8. Promote gender and minority equity initiatives through recruiting activities and programs.
  9. Participate in professional development activities such as conferences, workshops, or meetings.
  10. Adhere to NCAA, Ivy League, University, and Department rules and regulations, maintaining high professional and ethical standards.
  11. Maintain good working relationships within the Department.
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education.
Minimum Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's Degree
  2. Excellent communication skills in writing, speaking, and listening.
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High competency in volleyball instruction, motivation, and understanding of intercollegiate athletics in a competitive academic environment.
  2. Strong recruiting, teaching, and coaching skills.
  3. Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with student-athletes, staff, and alumni.
  4. Successful coaching experience in women's volleyball, preferably at the NCAA Division level.
  5. Valid Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Five years of coaching experience preferred.
  2. Collegiate or professional coaching experience preferred.
  3. Knowledge of volleyball-specific software such as VS Pro or DV4.
