Job summary

North Slope Borough seeks personnel to help supervise maintenance of roads, airports, landfills and equipment, ensuring priorities and open access at all times. You will recruit, hire, evaluate and supervise staff, maintain records, and coordinate equipment maintenance.

You may serve as Acting Village Services Supervisor and perform as an Equipment Operator or Mechanic as needed, with safety meetings and policy instruction as part of the role.

Qualifications

• Two years supervisory experience.
• Two years operation and maintenance of mobile and stationary equipment.
• Valid Alaska CDL meeting Borough criteria.
• IS-100/IS-200/IS-300/IS-400/IS-700/IS-800 and CPR/First Aid certifications required.

Job description

Summary or Purpose

All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up testing.

Assist in the supervision of the maintenance of roads, airports, landfills, and equipment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Assist in the management of all Village Services operations and personnel.

Assist in establishing a priority road network, assuring that these roads are open and usable at all times.

Assist in recruiting, hiring, evaluating, supervising and handling personnel issues.

Assist in maintaining employee and equipment records.

Assist in coordinating equipment maintenance and record keeping.

Serve as Acting Village Services Supervisor when necessary.

Serve as an Equipment Operator or Mechanic as necessary.

Conduct safety meetings and instruct personnel regarding Borough policies and procedures.

May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.

• Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications.

• Skill in working under pressure of deadlines, and establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with department staff and other Borough employees.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, other Borough employees and representatives from other local, state and Federal agencies.

• Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R.

• 265.16 within the probationary period.

• Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within the probationary period.

• Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R.

• 273.16 within the probationary period.

• Ability to obtain site specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. 112.7 (f)(1)(2) and (3) within the probationary period.

Education, Experience, Certifications And Licenses Required

High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.

Two years experience with the operation and maintenance of mobile and stationary equipment;

Two years supervisory experience;

Valid Alaska Commercial Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria;

Required to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 300, IS 400, IS 700 and IS 800;

Required to obtain CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications;
