About SAi TV:

Developed by the M-Lab in the SAi Resident Collective, SAi TV is a transformative civic science journalism project that covers contemporary ideas and insights from a diverse group of experts, disseminates news produced by various stakeholders in the civic science community, and highlight pioneering initiatives that link people to science.

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Assistant Video Editor to support the Executive Producer, Fanuel Muindi, on his SAiTV show called Questions of the Day in covering diverse civic science stories to our audience. The ideal candidate thrives in an uncertain environment and is adaptable to the dynamic nature of our work. A self-starter, this person should be able to take the initiative and proactively contribute to developing content. In addition, the Assistant Video Editor should have excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think outside the box to create engaging video content. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves collaborating with various team members. A passion for civic science and a dedication to making a positive impact through media is also highly desirable. This role is perfect for someone who is looking for an additional side hustle in their portfolio of work on top of their current existing role.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in editing 3 videos per month generated from the interviews conducted by the ED.
  • Work closely with the Executive Producer to ensure the final product aligns with the envisioned narrative.
  • Use Canva expertly to edit and finalize video content.
  • Contribute to brainstorming and review sessions with the ED.
  • Ensure timely delivery of final products with short turnarounds.
  • Experience and willingness to utilize AI tools to accelerate and enhance the editing process.
  • Manage the posting and organization of new content on the SAiTV website

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in video editing/storytelling, preferably in a science engagement setting.
  • Expert proficiency in using Canva or related software for video editing.
  • Strong storytelling skills with an ability to express ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • An understanding of civic science, including public engagement with science, science communication, and informal science.
  • Experience and willingness to utilize new AI tools in the editing process.
  • Residence in either Washington DC , Virginia, or Massachusetts.

Working Schedule: The role is remote, and the successful candidate will have the flexibility to work their own hours, as long as they meet the monthly production deadlines.
